New AGP Card for this system

thats a shocking card, try stretch for an X800 of some sort, failing that go for a 6600gt or the like. i had this decision with a mate pc couple weeks ago and the X800 was the best thing he bought he said! i read some benchmarks and the X1600 isnt all that

2. HIS Excalibur ATI Radeon X700 ICEQII 128MB GDDR3 TV-Out/DVI (AGP) - Retail (RX700-AGP128ICEQ) (GX-045-HT) Price: £50.00 (£58.75 Including VAT at 17.5%)
OR in ATI normal AGP cards (high than budget but have bought 2 and they are on par with 6800gt in most games imo)
3. Sapphire ATI Radeon X800 GTO 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/DVI (AGP) - Retail (GX-122-SP) Price: £104.95 (£123.32 Including VAT at 17.5%)

Go the 2nd hand route.
A 6800GT/Ultra or ATI X800 Pro/XL series card would tear through those games with utter ease.
Just noticed you have only 256MB of system RAM! RDRAM is Rambus, which normally has to be installed in pairs. Do you have 2 x 128MB or just a single 256MB stick?
Would be well upping the RAM to at least 512MB first and then getting a graphics card with whatever you have left.

Rambus needs to be installed in pairs. A pair of 256 sticks for Rambus costs a small fortune as my boss just found out about a month ago.calnen said:
You'd be best off saving up the cash and getting a DDR or DDR2 system which'll probably have PCI-E. PCI-E cards are a better deal anyway as even older, poorer performing AGP cards remain high in price for the sole reason that they're AGP.

It's not the AGP card that makes the system bad, it's the RDRAM. It's very expensive and most people think 40 ms CAS latencies are not good for performance.
