I know this has been asked before but i'm after upgrading from my agp card (9700), looking to spend about £100-£150 as i can't afford a full system upgrade yet. So just looking for something to do me for a few months, that will be decent with new games as well. Not fussed whether its Ati or Nvidia, so long as its better than my current card. :)

Also i've heard about the 7600GT cards, but can't find any agp ones. Are they just pcie or are the agp ones not available yet?

Looking in the clearance section, i've noticed these 2 cards;

Connect3D ATI Radeon X800 Pro "OcUK 16 Pipeline Special Edition" 256MB

&

Point of View GeForce 6800 GT 256MB

Both within my price range, is one "better" than the other or are they both on par, which one of those 2 would you guys go for?

Just a quick update on the 6800GT.

Card arrived this morning, as soon as i got home from work installed it and fired up Oblivion. You can probably imagine how this ran on a 9700, but the difference is amazing. The amount of extra detail and stuff now is unbelieveable, it also runs smooth now as well. Also tried the GRAW demo and that too plays miles better, gonna try BF2 later see what that runs like.

But all in all i'm one happy chap, thanks for the help again guys and thanks to ocuk for the good deals. :D

I'm not listening to you gt_junkie anymore, trying to make me spend more money. ;) Coolers not too bad actually, played Oblivion for a good few hours last night and it kept pretty cool.

Not tried clocking it yet but gonna have a look into it, tried BF2 set it to 1280x1024, max settings with 4aa & 8af and it slowed down like mad, unplayable. Tried it at 1024x768 and it was still really choppy, i'll try lowering some settings and what no_1_dave says, and see what happens.

Always been an affliction of mine - just tryin to spread the bug to others!!! ;) :p

I promise not to make you spend any more cash as it sounds like the card's doing well!

I'll also second the 2 gig comment from no_1_dave. Should sort the bf2 chop issue! But remember - it was his comment so he's the one tempting you to buy that second gig!!! :D

I'm keeping my eye on both of you. ;)

I tried BF2 with the lighting and textures set to med and it runs fine. There's the odd stutter now and again but think thats down to my ram (1gb). Now tempted to order 2gb tho. :D
