I have a Nvidia 750a sli motherboard the new edition which says on the box, ''brand new design optimized for AM3 CPU''

However i am thinking of buying this cpu would it be compatible with this mobo, many thanks

750a is just a chipset not a board

you need to find out which motherboard it is then goto the asus website and look at the cpu suport list or look at the bios updates and see if the latest one added 6core support

i could not find any bios/cpu suport updates on your motherboards page on the asus website however.
http://event.asus.com/mb/2010/m4_6cores/

shows
MOTHERBOARD: M4N72-E
CHIPSET: NVIDIA nForce® 750a SLI
BIOS VERSION THAT ADDED X6 CPU SUPPORT: 2005 (which was released 2010/03/19)

update your bios version to bios 2005 and your board will happily accept a X6 CPU
the bios can be found @ http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=5tWNOaMAxGs1FXIQ click the download section

should i go for it then, even though i just bought my pehom 2 920 2 weeks ago i cant help think the 6 core will give me a considerable boosat with my 5870, is it worth it?

i guess it depends on wether you can afford to or not, maybe if you can sell on the phenonII 920 for enough that the loss isnt so much but otherwise you could just wait and grab one at some point in the future once your pc starts to struggle
