Just wondering if any new AMD processors are due since Intel have their new batch next week. If so, will it use AM3? I ask because i might not upgrade to the new Intels if AMD are due some too, since i won't need to change motherboard.

Cheers

Why don't you overclock your current CPU?? Even getting a new 870 motherboard and an aftermarket cooler would be cheaper than buying one of the new Core i5 CPUs,a new motherboard and a cooler.

I always only buy AMD. Maybe its because I fear Intel having a monopoly and holding us all to Ransom

Really? Why not just buy the best chip at the time for yourself, rather than feeling sorry for a large corporation.

You can use your AM3 chip in a AM3+ motherboard.

And what games is your phenom struggling with? I bet none if you overclocked it.

Your CPU is fine for anything.

Majority of games these days are GPU limited not CPU.

Especially when you crank up the res and eye-candy.

you can use AM3 CPU into AM3+ motherboard but not the AM3+ CPU into AM3 mobo so it will be Q2 2011 for the new AM3+ Bulldzoer-based Zambezi.. also AMD will development next one AM4 with DDR4 due in 2013 or later so release wont be known after 2014.

If intel have a monopoly, it will be because they are better at the time than AMD. Just like ATi were better than nVidia last year, and thus held a large deal of sway. However nVidia showed that it's possible to bounce back, so don't be too worried about AMD, especially with the information coming out about the next range of CPU's :)

Not strictly true.

Intel and amd's income does not come from us who pick a pc based on its spec. It comes from businesses buying the cheapest pc's and servers for what they need. These business deals are worth a lot of money and I believe currently, or for a time, amd was largely beating intel on this front.

The second major income point would be the home pc bought by those that go to purple shirt wearing bad retail shops etc. Once again, these pc's are built by the cheapest supplier who cuts deals with intel or amd. These have little reflection on the performance of the chips, just simply who would go the cheapest.

However, intel has a better reputation amongst those that know nothing for some strange reason and this helps them sell their cpu's to the said customers. Amusingly then there are the people who know a little but not much and presume that amd is better because it was always better priced and then you have people who actually know something and know that its highly dependant on what you want from your pc and your budget as to which cpu is best ;).

Yep pretty much although I don't think AMD have really made that much of a dent on Intel on the workstation side.

When I supply a system to a customer (either home or business), they tend to be AMD due to the price/performance given unless it is a performance system or has a large budget etc.

AMD and Intel aren't the only chip makers, ignoring VIA for a second there's several more major players, namely Qualcomm, ARM and Samsung. Even nVidia, there's a lot to suggest the Tegra 2 is actually faster than the Atom, it's just hard to get them running the same software to actually compare.

Yeah I did think that AMD were ment to be doing quite well. I imagine their new cpu's will likely be aimed to help them take an even greater hold.

Oh I know but I figured they were more for things like mobiles etc?
