New apartment - door intercom system not working, help please anyone?

Hey all,

I moved into a new apartment yesterday, and its all very nice, pre-networked, phone and tv/fm plugs in all the rooms and things, and a nice fancy gated entry system and coded doors, one problem though! I cant seem to get the intercom system fitted to the gate and the buildings front door to work with my phones, the TV camera side of it works perfectly, tuned them into the the tv so I can see if anyone is outside, but when they type in my apartment number to the intercom system it is appartently ment to ring my phones, I pick up and talk to them and then open the door/gate for them, but for some reason it isnt making my phones ring, it makes a ringing noise on the intercom panel but not in my apartment, anyone else have this kind of system and know how to get it to work? The building manager said it should just work like the tv system did, so maybe I've got a fault? or do you need a special phone for it? Might ask my neighbours if they had to do anything special to make it work, its quite annoying though with people coming to visit and things.

Do you need pin 3 wired up like a bell would be on the phone sockets?

EDIT: I don't think it's wired in that way - seems like a dialer thing..oops!

We have one of those awful systems too. V. annoying because it only calls one number and we don't have a landline, so it calls my housemates mobile which is useless if they're out with no idea who is at the door.
I don't think there is anything special that needs to be done with the phones though :confused:
