people tend not to take you serious when you come all over boy racer "but i was racing scoobys with my van innit" style.

Theres also the problem that the 1.9 CDTI 150bhp astra struggles to break 0-60 in 8.3s

An extra 50bhp isnt going to reduce its 0-60 time by 3 seconds, which is how much its going to need to come down by to start beating 330i

In most tests the vans are getting about 6.5 to 60mph but we are talking front wheels drive here so thats about as good as it gets.

its between 40-100mph the 330i wont give this van any problems. torque 402nm nuff said :)

exactly, anything that is light(ish) and has a decent amount of power isn't going to have a problem moving with some urgency. just keep the claims within the realms of reality :)

It's too easy to turn up your noses just because it's a van. If you read my post you'll read that I have driven alongside one of these mapped to 200bhp and it stayed with us CTR and DC2/5 owners just fine, it looked like loads of fun to be honest.

The owner said it wasn't much compared to his EP3 and FN2 that he had in the past but it was easy to keep up and still have as much fun.

Wouldn't touch a 182 or CTR, either.

Someone drove with us on one of the Type-R meets in one of these and was nibbling at the heels of a 300bhp EVO III as well as keeping up with us! He had it from the dealer with 200bhp and it certainly moved. He used to have an FN2 but needed something practical for his business in the end but still wanted some fun.

I wouldn't personally go for one as I don't need a Van but it sure held its own and looked the part too.

so you cant read then :/

I'd imagine that whatever goods the van is carrying will not be "goods" any more after thrashing around racing other cars...

That's the fun of it :p

I do believe there is some truth in the OP..

edit:

This van has the 1.9CDTi 16v engine coming in Sportive trim is aimed at the performance orientated driver. The power plant produces 150bhp and due to lack of weight in the load bay the Astravan is like driving a rocketship. In fact as you would expect the Astravan drives just like the three door Astra. Drive is channelled to the front wheels and the engine is mated to a smooth shifting six speed gearbox but if you prefer there is an automatic gearbox offered as an option. In town it is easy to drive but it is much better when you let the 1.9CDTi 16v sing freely on the open road.

Astravan is only about 30kg heavier than the 888 Astra Sporthatch

given this

i suppose on a rolling start its not too hard to believe. Diesels will always have a torque advantage on rolling starts.

:D

these things fly with the boxes... 200bhp is easily achieved on these lumps.

some of you have no idea just how easy it is to gain more power out of some of the modern derv lumps.

drive one before you mock ;)

vans dont hang around

there is a vito sportmax with 200 odd horse power, does 0-60 in 8 secs which for a full pnale van is insane, we have the 115 and it still packs 170 ish hp and its stupidly good fun

whilst some of the claims here are a little fantastical there is an undertone of truth :)

Its got to be the best looking van ever made.

cars ive ripped a new bum hole so far civic type r/mk1 wrx/golf vr6/bmw 330i

also had a 2 mile blast from 40mph with a VXR astra and it was neck and neck prolly due to the fact they share the same 6 speed gear box.

ive had loads of quick cars in my time

And now you've been lumbered with a diesel fan. That sucks, but stop trying to convince yourself everything is ok.

Driven these in their 150bhp incarnations and I must say, these things shift and feel more agile than the normal astra.

Have driven one with an autobox and even that didn't feel that bad!

as usual the bmw snob brigade mock first and think last.

i own a vauxhall astra sri 1.9cdti 150bhp and used to have the same said tuning box and when tested on a rolling road it pushes just under 200bhp.

the 0 to 60 was quicker than 8.3 seconds.

and for the record the tuning box is actually really good, the diesel tuning company, the guy who sells them works hand in hand with several tuning companies, dap development and the vxr performance centre and had a 1.9cdti diesel estate that would also live up to the claims mentioned above, in fact im sure if any of you poncy bmw owners through down the gauntlet there would be several owners of similar cars/vans the original poster mentioned would only be too happy to proove he aint talking poo, you just have to look beyond the pretentiousness of your little ocuk bmw club.
