Have a new Audi in order and nipped in for an update yesterday (another 3 week delay ffs)

Mooching round the showroom every single car had utterly ridiculous orange peel. Everything from bog standard A3/ to a 100k sq8 looked like they had been painted by stevie wonder.

Is this an Audi thing ? My current 5 series doesn’t have paintwork anything like as bad as this (albeit its plain white so hides a lot of sins)

Spoke to my detailer who says not recommended to try and fix as will require wet sanding

Any thoughts ?

I guess just because you buy an expensive car it doesn't mean you get great quality.

I work with people that buy BMWs and they've had 3 in the 15 years that have all had issues when my 15 year old Vauxhall has been perfect!

(Snapped chain killing the engine, issues with traction control modules etc etc)

They've been like that for years. Virtually everything the VW-Audi team makes comes with paint that you would have considered 'somewhat crap' even from '70s British Leyland.

That's why the factory matte paint etc looks best especially up close with many brands now as you get a smooth satin finish as opposed to immense orange peel from all gloss paints. BMW's M5 CS is the best example of matte satin done perfectly. Seen a few KIA models do it nicely too.

they can get away with it and it saves them time and money so why not. Not like people will stop buying these "premium" brands.

Pretty sure I also noticed quite a bit when looking around the BMW showroom too. I think most people just don't care as long as it's not scratched or marked

Combination of paint that doesn't melt the polar ice caps and the fact that people don't care about frivolities like the quality of paint on their £40k+ cars these days.

I stand by my comments a couple of years ago, despite getting a lot of hate for it on this very forum. The paint is dreadful.

It just is. Go and walk around your local showroom. Take a closer look at the darker colours and stand at an angle so you can see across the panels.

There's a lovely san merino m3 covered in swirls and orange peel is like nothing I've seen before. That ones really bad.

imho BMW is much worse than Audi, but Audi has other issues with paint.

Maybe paint correction can flatten it down a bit? I'm assuming it's the clear coat which is the problem
