New AVR not going smoothly

So updated my old Onkyo with a Denon AVR X3300 (2016 model) (all singing and dancing) which I mainly wanted as it was network connected and I could control via the app plus give more oomph to my sound system.

After being on the phone for an hour with Denon we decided the Audassey mic was not working so now have to wait a while as they are sending a new one out.
The sound pass through comes from my PC which has always worked flawlessly, getting TrueHD etc to display on the certain movie files that have it.
With the new Amp, I can't seem to get that working :( always just DTS.
If I select passthrough on AMP settings the signal constantly flickers in and out (as if it's searching).
If I play a SD quality audio movie (usually one of my sons) the subwoofer is not even used? When the old Onkyo would still make it sound wonderful.
There is also red specks all over black areas on the movies, a quick google suggests this might be (hopefully) the HDMI cable.....but it wasn't doing that before.

Having tested it on a few movies, it does sound amazing, but so many things I'm scratching my head over and just not running smoothly I'm not sure what to do. I know the output from the PC is fine as it was always running great. I bought a $1k amp to get all the fixings, but can't seem to get the basics out of it just yet.

Probably going to call Denon back but that takes forever and an age.

I assume you are using Kodi or something? Have you setup the windows audio correctly for thr new HDMI device and have you also adjusted the settings in Kodi for the new receiver - I.e WASAPI and checking DTS:MA etc

Also you need to press the green button on the denon remote to cycle to the correct audio mode.

I use Plex and have not adjusted anything in Win as thought it would just remain the same? Thanks for the tip, I'll have a look at settings and see if it somehow reverted back or something.
I'll check the green button, I assumed it would knock out the best audio quality?
Going to phone Denon in 45mins.

Ah, I did not know that :)
So need to find audio output on Win, select HDMI, pass through or something along those lines :D
However, some of my movies were output at DTS and sounded great, it was just the one lower quality one that was strange.

In windows audio config I set mine as 7.1 (even though it's 5.1) and all speakers to full range to ensure the A/V receiver is doing the proper decoding and taking windows out of the equation

Also it might be the yellow button, can't quite remember.

Thanks Vincent, I remember setting up my Onkyo and HTPC originally and taking for ever. Trying to get DTS to switch to TrueHD took a lot of setting changes.
Will mess with Windows tonight.
