I'm after a new bag to transport my gear in, I don't have a huge amount, Body, 2 lenses, batteries, memory cards and various cloths.

I am looking for a messenger style bag and ideally wouldn't like it to look too much like a camera bag. I have had a look and the Crumpler Messenger Boy 4000 looks like it could be a good option.

I have the following kit to go in the bag

Canon 50D
70-200 F4 L
24-105 F4 L

I would also like a bag that has some space for some non camera kit, e.g bottle of water & thin jacket. I don't need space for a laptop but it wouldn't be the end of the world if that was there.

So would the Crumpler be a good choice? or are there better options out there?

Many Thanks,

It won't ffit that stuff. You'd need the 7500.

You could try the Nat Geo earth explorers or just use a standard off the shelf bag and pad it yourself.

I have the Crumpler Muffin Top 7500, and i can fit in the 450d with 18-55mm attached. 55-250mm and 50mm 1.8. Can fit a 500ml bottle. And perhaps stuff (snuggly) another 50mm sized (slightly bigger) lens, and a flash gun (not too sure about this actually). And then the front pocket has a lens pen, spare battery, cpl filter (Can still fit a bit more). I'm happy with it. Waterproof and i managed to get for a smidgen over £40.

FWIW I absolutely love crumplers - if you havent had one before, you will be blown away by the build quality and the attention to detail. I would agree with p0ss3s3d however that the 7500 looks a more appropriate fit size wise, and it has a little room for expansion too :)

Thanks for the replies :) I'm going to have a look in my local Jessops tomorrow to see if they have any of the Crumplers in so i can have a look.

Most Jessops don't have Crumplers in stock or in store. Best bet would be Jacobs if there's any around yours.

I personally highly recommend the Crumpler Messenger 7500, it's £40 off SRS ebay store. I got one and I have space for my 40D, 50mm, 18-50mm f2.8, a Metz 48 AF-1 flashgun, even 2 slots left which I used to store a 750mm water bottle (on par with your 70-200mm f4.0, vertically). The front pocket allows for a bunch of filters and remote shutter cables e.t.c.

Nice, padded, comfortable and waterproof~

Can you put some pictures up when you get it please Monty. I'm interested to see how the 50D and 70-200 fits when you get it :)

I have a 'New Delhi 620' which is great, ive been meaning to do a review for everyone, ill try and sort it by tomorrow ;)

I got one of the Nanue Military Ops Echo model. Designed in the USA and Made in Vietnam (lol).

Bag Arrived

This update is a little later than planned.

I now have the bag and I am very impressed with it. Took a week to get delivered which considering it was out of stock when I ordered I think is very good.

Went for the Black and Mustard as I didn't like the green and the white would just have got too dirty.

Was able to fit my 50D with 24-105 (+ hood reversed) in the middle and the 70-200 F4 (hood reversed) to the side. This still leaves a third of the bag for extra lenses, a flash or more than likely a securly fastened drinks bottle.

You get enough dividers that you can customise the layout to suit your kit, I have created a small section infront of where I put the 70-200 lens which holds my phone or wallet very nicely.

Overall very pleased with the purchase, I am yet to have yet to use it whilst out and about but the padded strap seemed to be comfortable enough when trying it out around the house.

Thanks for all the advice :)

I chose that colour as well heh. Glad you like it :) It's a very good bag.
I have a similar layout to yours, apart from the divider in the middle i have on the other side.

Thanks for the pictures Monty, how much space is there above your 70-200. I'm going to get the 2.8 soon and much current bag isn't deep enough. Room for a 2.8?

I'm planning to put a 50D, 17-55 2.8 attached with the 70-200 and a 580ex and a 430ex. Room enough you think?

With my 70-200 there is about an inch spare above the lens. I have just tried it with my dads 70-200 which is the F2.8 version and that fits fine, it comes level with the top of the bag and doesn't cause any problems with closing the bag.
