New bathroom log

Mistake.

Filling bath 1/2 full and having shower screen in place before sealing the bath ????

Good work mate, just had our bathroom, very similar size completely gutted and down with very similar, but complete tiled wall to ceiling. Paid a good local tradesman, £3700 all in :)

OP: Did you ply on top of the floorboards? If so what have you done about the height difference at the doorway?
I Used 18mm structural ply but pulled up the og boards... At the minute it's flush with the landing but after 2-3mm of underfloor heating + leveling compound + Adhesive + Tiles it could be quite a step... Any ideas?

Also, what do you think to the vanity unit? We're trying to make a decision here but the quality seems to vary massively...

Macca: WRT acrylic baths flexing... In the instructions that came with my bath it says to fix 2"x1" battens to the walls about 1mm under the lip of the bath to prevent this. They're not really there to support the bath, the feet are but it just limits any flex around the lip... We'll see how that pans out :)
 
Looking really good, you must be very pleased!!

I love the middles of the taps, with the water running down the channel and out, but I'm not keen on the squared handles, do they do any other different handles?

Doing my bathroom currently and i've ordered the same style, minus the shower head, because i have a separate shower.

Will put a log of my build up soon, i have a 1.8m long vanity unit build, airspar bath, and 3 way thermostatic shower build, with rainfall head and hand nozel, so quite a bit of plumbing, also got the same floor as the OP, if that's the one from B&Q.
 
Oh lovely, thanks for the link, expensive but beautiful some of those! Going to be a long while before I tackle the bathroom where I cam but always good to know where to look!!! :)

I put the outlet and inlet on the shower head the wrong way round, so when you switched the diverter to the rainfall head, everything stopped :-)

What type of ply did you use for the floor?

9mm structural ply.

Yeah, but we have a think landing carpet so the bathroom floor is still actually lower than the landing.

Only thing I can think of is stepping down to 12mm ply and using very thin tiles - have you looked at the aqua style vinyl tiles like we've used?

Also, what do you think to the vanity unit? We're trying to make a decision here but the quality seems to vary massively...

I love it. Really nicely finished. I can only comment on the quality of the one I have from better bathrooms but I've got no issues with it - came ready built, doors properly adjusted and I like the soft close hinges. I could maybe have stepped up from a 75cm one to a 90cm on but I think the gaps down the side are just right as they are and it gives somewhere to put a toilet brush and a bin. And I didn't want the units too close anyway as I WILL need to clean down the sides - especially with two young boys in the house!

Bathroom is 2.1m x 2.4m when stripped to bare brick. The 180cm bath is along the 2.1m wall, which gives a nice 20cm shelf at the end once the walls are plastered/tiled :-)
 
Very nice job mate, do you mind me asking how much it cost in total, roughly. Currently working the budget out for mine.

Also, did you dot and dab the plaster board or use batons?

No probs.

Bathroom suite + all fittings was £1700.

Tiles were £450 and flooring £180.

Lights and fittings were £100.

Spent about £300 on sundries (plasterboard, tile adhesive, grout, plywood, odd bits of plumbing fittings etc) and £100 on the loft ladder, so approx £2800 in total.

Also, did you dot and dab the plaster board or use batons?

Dot and dab - didn't want to use battons and make the room smaller as it's not a big bathroom to start with. I also used nailable plugs (reconmended if tiling).
 
Thanks for replying Amiga... You've done a brilliant job in such a short space of time... It's taken us 3 weeks to decide on tiles, and we're still not sorted :(

I do like the Aspen units and accompanying mirror cabinet.

The flooring is laid and done now so I guess I'll have to hope some nice thick carpet on the landing makes up for it :)

Were these used as a secondary fixing to the board adhesive? How many per board?
 
^ Says 2 per board in the description (not being arsey btw), which surprised me as I thought it would need more. Maybe that's 2 without tiles? Yeah not much point in battening out unless you want to create a gap behind the wall, for insulation or to run pipes etc.
 
got a quote for mine today only £4732:eek:

8ft x 7ft room,stuff that ill do it myself:p priced all the bits up ill come in at roughly £1500

just hope I can do it asgood as the op
