Only had the GSXR1000 for a year but never had a bike I've ridden less - only 1500 miles in 12 months! Can't really put my finger on it, just a combination of getting older / more sensible and the crappy road conditions (both traffic and pot holes). We have some awesome roads around here but I dont seem to be enjoying them. Did a couple of track days on the Gixxer and it was brilliant, but even then was rarely out of third gear, and as much as I'd like to do more of them, being 100 miles away from a track is a right pain.

So, I've finally decided to see what all the fuss is about the GS. My mates had them for the past 7 years and we've done tours together where I've looked enviously at his comfy steed on all road conditions, but especially the small, narrow bumpy stuff. Already got a Euro trip booked for August and taking my 13 year old son with me, so it will definitely be better for that, and also got the TT booked for next year.

Decided to go brand new, as really wanted the triple black colour scheme and newer twin cam engine, which was hard to track down 2nd hand, and its a bike I plan to keep for a few years so nice to know its been run in properly etc. Opted for ABS, heated grips and remote oil sensor, and full 3 piece luggage, but passed on the electronic suspension, which isn't rebuildable and has very mixed reports from the various GS forums, and didn't bother with Traction control. It comes with the black wire spoken wheels which look great :)

So, should be picking it up by the end of the month hopefully.

Really like it! I really like the GS range from BMW, I'd love to have on of them in my collection at some point.

I must still be young then (yay) as these bikes don't do a whole lot for me, but I can understand why you changed :) enjoy it mate

I see quite a few people our (cough) age going over to this style bike, i've not seen one regret it either Infact most are more than pleased they made the change.

Enjoy the new bike and the Euro trip with your lad, he'll love it

Ps.. get some pics up after your trip :)

hhmm, just had a call from the dealer to say they cant get a triple black until the end of July :( That means I'd struggle for time to run it in and get it serviced before the eurotrip.

They are offerring me a Rallye at a discount, which is a slightly higher spec for only a couple of hundred more. Not sure if I love or hate the colourscheme though! Genuine dilemma :/

Yeah, I was thinking that. You can get black beak covers that fit on the end - would just finish it off.

Think I'm going to go for it, but might just pop over to the dealers first. Apparently looks much more striking in the flesh

Yes go and have a look before making your mind up, pictures never do a bike justice.

First colour scheme is much nicer to the eye but the wait mm I think I would probably give in :)

Edit: Come to think of it If i was buying new then I would want what I want so it's no for second best for me.

This tbh, years ago i bought a brand new Bandit 1200, i specifically wanted a black one, but my local dealership where out of stock, & it was going to be a while before they got there next delivery of black Bandits from suzi as it was the most popular colour, so they did me a deal on a metalic red one & of i went, & it allways niggled me that ide bought the "wrong" colour, really grated on my nerves in the end.

Never done that since, allways get the colour i want, even if it means waiting.

I couldn't have the second one. The black one is damn sexy and if I got the white one I'd always regret not waiting.

Wait for the black and then chuck the miles on when you get it and get it serviced.
