Had a busy day yesterday...

Went down to Birmingham to see a few friends and here's what I came back with...

The front rub strips for my bumper. I was thinking of getting rid of the Coupe bumper and reverting back to the standard one, but after seeing it with the rub strips finished, I really like it. Much better than a load of unsightly bolts showing.

Next, were the strut braces. The upper rear (fitted) and the lower rear which is also in the picture which I still have to fit. After fitting the upper brace, I took it for a good old rag. I don't know what to say... I'm still grinning like a little kid on christmas day :D

MAJOR improvement! Less understeer, sharper response... the car is absolutely mental around the bends. It's like a completely new car! I threw it around a roundabout before (the same one I always test my car on) and at the same speeds as before, the car was flatter, hardly any squealing... well, apart from the squealing I was making trying to hold on! Well impressed!

Finally, I swapped my half leathers for these seats from an MG ZR. They're much more supportive than the standard seats... very useful for chucking the car around!

They look nicer too, and give the interior a bit of colour. While being much firmer than the old seats, they're so comfy. The first time I sat in them, I was almost swallowed. Took a bit of getting used to, but they're growing on me.

Well I like the seats, a lot.

Strut braces need to be coloured something not so gash, and personally i'd lose the bumper because the hole in the front looks poo :(

Although I can't help thinking your priorities are a bit messed up - I mean I'd have got the car looking mint BEFORE I started adding new bits, those seats really make a difference and look great!

Like the seats there. :)

Thought about spraying the strut braces black so it don't stand out so bad?

Really does seem to be taking shape now. Just sort out all the exterior of the car now before doing anything else would be my advice.

As with the others looks great apart from that gaping meshed hole in the bumper. Also I think I prefer it without the later grill on.

Cheers for the replies guys. Much appreciated :)

I bought the bumper from a guy who had a FMIC on his car. He cut that hole to provide more airflow to the intercooler. I'm going to have a play with numberplate positioning tomorrow, and will probably put the plate back in the normal place, covering the hole.

When it comes the time for me to get an FMIC, I'll definitely be spraying the mesh black to hide the hole, as I'll agree and say it does look gash.

I don't actually mind the strut braces being bright red. It's certainly attention grabbing when I open the boot and should start up a lot of conversations... "Oooooo, what does that pretty thing do!" haha.

I'll probably paint the rear upper black, leave the rear lower red and when I get the front brace, will leave that red... or maybe paint it blue to match my HT leads.

MrSix... :D I used to have the old seats tilted back quite a bit, as the lumbar support meant that even with the seat tilted I was still sitting comfortably. These new seats are just so much more supportive that I don't need to be sitting at silly angles to get comfortable.

With regards to the bodywork... I'm currently in the process of saving up for the car to go in the bodyshop. The MOT is due in November so with any luck I'll get the sills welded and spraying done just in time for that... but I still need to replace some of the suspension bushes with my polybushes and a split CV boot to replace, so I'll probably end up taking the car off the road over winter to get all of the jobs sorted.

Everything I've bought for the car so far, I didn't mean to. They just came up as great bargains... and I have a habit of not being able to refuse bargains :( I'll just have to keep thinking of how good the car will look when it's finished.

GT3, my friend who I bought the seats off has a GTi Turbo with the earlier grille. My front end looked absolutely awful next to his, so I am actually thinking of trying to get my hands on one. I want to get the bonnet resprayed too (both front wings and bumper were from the same person and had a respray recently) so could probably get the holes for the grille smoothed over.

You really have been pulled into this rover lovin' :p :D

AGW should be proud :p

Nice seats. I like the braces being bright too, it's a nice contrast in an otherwise dull area.

Think the car is looking great. You take a similar approach to modifying as me - I cant seem to turn down bargains :( :D

I like the braces and the seats, but please, please do but the number plate back on over the hole and stick a better grille on..
