Hi All
first up just want to say hi as im new to these boards .......
Always said I would never get involved in o/c ing.... hmmmmm if you need a bigger engine buy a big engine !!! but now with my latest build I can completely understand why you guys want to master it

So it seems I have created a bit of a monster, but not sure where to go from here really

here is the spec

core i7 920 2.60 stock atm
asus rampage II extreme MB
6 gig corsair dominator tripple channel
2x 9800 gx2 in quad sli
zalman GS 1000 case with 5 noctua 1200 fans
and cpu cooler is again noctua nhu12p with push pull

another fan controller comming Thursday as the Zalman ZM-MFC2 outputs pwm and not variable voltage so hopfully have better fan control by the w/e

this system eats what ever I throw at it pretty much
so what do you guys think ?

I have seen ppl o/c the 920 to 4 mhz stable without to much trouble, should I do that ? , will I notice much diffrence ?

This rig is just for gamming not much else really

please let me know what you suggest

Cheers
Rick

Hi, and yes you should definatley clock the nuts off that CPU, however in gaming terms you prob notice a bigger differnece in more uptodate gfx card(s)

Welcome, and CLAIMED !

And yes, the 920's are VERY overclockable. With that board it would be a crime not to. If you ever want to get into water or extreme air cooling then that is the board to have. :)

You would probably notice quite a big stepup if you were to sell the 9800GX2's and invest in a single top range card at the moment. And they should be fairly easy to shift, they are awesome Folding cards !

ok so happy with the new fan controller everything in place to push the cpu;)

in the bios we go, checking out the cpu level up option, seems a no brainer if it works, select lvl 2 lvl up 3.9 mhz (I think ) set ram to 1600 f10 and see what happens:eek:

run prime 95 with cpuz also.... omg cant belive its that easy... cpu loads up to 4.0 mhz from idle (hovvering around 2.6 ish) and most importantly almost no significant temp increase ( using noctua's new cooler atm great bit of kit)
after 20 minutes full load cpu does not get past 48 49 deg' :)

and all fans ramped to max just for testing

so what just happened, did i strike lucky first time ... did I not actually do any o/cing at all compared to what you guys do

comments plz

cheers in advance

Rick
