Hi all,

Get to that time to swap the combi boiler out for a new model.

I know that Worcester Bosch are a good make but has anyone had any experience with Veissmann boilers?

Seen that they crop up on a couple of installers website, never heard of them myself so not sure if they are any good, seem all right efficiency wise bot unsure overall on the make.

I think your mistaken, after a quick look on sedbuks page I can see them at positions: 62, 63, 90, 91 etc...

But either way, you'd be off your rocker to buy a boiler from its sedbuk rating, its only for test lab effeciency! Not performance or reliability, or value for money!

First rule for replacing a combi with a combi, is making sure its got enough power (kw) for the installation requirements, 2nd, get the thing installed correctly, 3rd, buy the best you can afford, cos your gonna be stuck with it for at least ten years, normally.

In my opinion, get a Vaillant, out of the range get the best one you can afford.

Vaillant use the same parts as Glow-worm according to another boiler thread and a Glow-worm boiler I know of constantly had problems.

The Vaillant here is noisy and seems to be constantly using power. I wouldn't get one.
 
I couldn't find it in the pcdf2009? oh well, I understand what your saying tho Mick as a lot of these A rated boilers ten years is about all your going to get, give me the old Ideal Slimline Mexico's back :P them things lasted century's !

Just had fitted a junior 28i fitted and a greenstar 37cdi,

both have been brilliant, worth thinking fitting a TF-1 when you get the boiler replaced, i did and its great at cleaning the system.
 
I've also just had one fitted and its a great bit of kit - not sure if the offer is still on but they were dishing out 5 year guarantees on parts as well so it was a bargain
 
Viessmann make fantastic boilers.

We had more or less no budget limits on our install and we decided to go with Viessmann.

haha that is not even the half of it, there is a whole house water filtering system and a commercial water softener there also.

EDIT: OP the Viessmann Vitodens 242F is very good as it a combi with a store in it so it can give very good flow rates.

Ah, one of them devices that Southerners need! Bet your water tastes amazing now! I remember how awful London tap water tastes. :(

My Vailliant was installed in 1996 and has passed every annual service with flying colours. It fires up without any issues and works faultlessly (he says tempting fate)

Not bad for a 16 year old combi....
 
Was worried that they may be some small outfit as i had never heard of them before.

Looks like i will be getting some quotes for them then, as well as other makes as they seem good to those that have them fitted.

All i could find on them was that they where German build.
 
I think most (if not all) people in the know would rate a Vaillant way higher than a Viessmann any day of the week!

I went on a Viessmann course last year. This was just so our company could offer Viessmann's 5 year warranty to a stubborn customer we had who only wanted that boiler.. I felt really sorry for the chap doing the presentation at Viessmann, as we ripped the boilers apart on some basic and fundamental design flaws! Nice ideas, poorly executed!

Ive repaired a few of them over the years, we dont see that many installed, and yes the customer who we fitted one for, had to call them out after it broke down!

As stated early in the thread Glow Worm are now owned by Vaillant.. Which is a bloody good move for Glow Worm! Glow worm have been making cheap **** boilers for too long now, so having the superior Vaillant engineering inside them can only be a good thing! Its a shame they seem to be around the budget end of the market, with far too much plastics inside them.

Downside of owning a Vaillant.... They aint cheap..

I wish more of our customers would have them fitted, but in this financial climate.....

BTW: I service and maintain domestic heating systems, we are not tied to any manufacturer, on average I see over 1500 boilers a year...... And I would say the Vaillants are one of the most quiet condensing combi's out there!

While I agree that Vaillant are very good, I have had one installed in or last house I still feel that Viessmann are just as good if not better. They seem to have had a little bit of bad press in the uk because the original Vitodens 100 they came out with in the uk was actually quite poor. However my understanding is that the other models (like the 200w) are much better. Out here in europe Viessmann are considered to be the best of the best.

They are also a lot cheaper in the uk compared to germany.

no advice on boiler but do shop around and negotiate with the companies

my old man has just replaced a combi this week

Worcester Bosch jobbie supply and fit, prices ranged from 2200 down to his best price of 1650 that he got down 1400 supplied and fitted with some fancy filter doodah thrown in as well that should have cost £95 on its own
 
Hopefully i will end up with a good half dozen quotes with what they recommend and a couple of other boiler makes thrown in for good measures.

Fingers crossed with the prices, will be interesting what boiler makes some of them come up with.
