my opinion is i would put the baby in

swing crib in our room until it can sit up unaided and pull its self up
then in big crib next door. and use the moses basket in living room when i needs a nap!

We bought a swing crib but I did not like it as it did not lock the crib in one position.
I then bought a small cot thing (portland crib) from Mothercare for about £50 and a £30 mattress (from memory) and prefer this greatly.

We used a moses with our first child but with this one we have the crib and downstairs we generally have her in her rockatot thing or on a springy chair type thing - when my wife stops cuddling her that is.

I don't expect the little one to be in her own room for at least a year maybe longer, then she'll share with her sister.

We used a moses basket from birth, but put the basket in the cot at night.
This way he got used to the cot environment at the same time. So the transition to the cot was a non-event for us.

so you put the little one in the moses basket and then put the moses basket in side the cot at night (baby in moses basket) into cot

I used this route as well, She now loves her cot.

Moses basket for when they're asleep and, as VIRII said, a spingy chair thing for when they are awake. Get one which vibrates. Scares them at first but they soon get used to it. The chairs are inclined so they can see what's going on around them instead of just staring at the ceiling.

BTW, VIRII, sorry to hear about your little girl.

Best option IME - do not let the wee one sleep in your bed, or you'll never get them in the cot again (best advice from some random woman in mothercare)

also is quite dangerous as risk of suffocating them under the duvet...

Another vote for moses basket here, but not recomending the bouncing chair things, prefer a more solid rocker type (less chance of big brother catapaulting him out!!).

All items here are something simular to this

would have to get matresses and bedding for them.

So what do you recommend best and from when?

i would put the baby in moses basket or swing cot until it was able to go in to large cot until the age of 2/3 before it goes in to the single bed

It doesn't really matter what you go for as long as their feet are at the bottom of it when you put them to bed to avoid any chance of them getting under the sheets.

Mind you we use "grobags" not sheets - definitely worth investing in.
They are like sleeping bags with armholes, no chance of kicking off covers, getting cold or getting under the sheets.

I find moses baskets a tad flimsy feeling and prefer the solid non rocking crib. I wanted a rocking crib but then once we had it I did not like it.
The crib will also outlast the moses time wise as the child grows.

So crib, then cot then bed. We just bought the most expensive mattresses for the crib and cot assuming that they'd be the best in mothercare.

When we put her into the single bed we bought a relatively cheap mattress incase of night time accidents.

Moses basket with all three (at different times ;) ), then into a cot at around 4 months, we didn't put the basket into the cot at any point and there was no problem swapping them over.

Yep. He grew quite quick so the moses basket didn't last long.
We also used the EASY method, which we found quite effect. If you stick to it then your little nipper learns to self settle, rather than relying on suckling to settle.

Recommend getting a cotbed sometime too. We got a cotbed (when the lad was around 4 months), which has 3 heights (requires DIY) with side rails and then can be a cute little bed until they're around 4. Got a handy little draw at the bottom too. He loves it.

£100 off ebay, normally £200+ retail (mattress was £40 extra though)

You're not lying there, our second only seemed to be in the moses basket for a matter of weeks!

We moved Nr 1 into a bed when he was 2 and a half in order to free up the cot - we put it away for a while so as sot to move him from it one night and put his brother in it the next. In fact it went away before Nr 2 was born.
