Does anyone here know how the initial connection fee is charged? Is it paid "up front" via debit/cc card, or is the amount added on to the first bill?

Can't call and ask them myself, as no phone... obviously.

(and I know you don't always have to pay a connection fee, but it looks as though I will have to, as there is no phone line in this property and I'm only ordering the most basic/cheapest package.)

I believe it is added to the first bill. If there has not been a phone line there before you will need to pay it. I think its about £125, not cheap :(

Cheers. Somehow managed to overlook that.

Quite glad about this, it's been a tight month already for me. :D

£125 seems a bit extortionate though... Especially considering how much money they make from people after the line is installed.

Have a look around for special offers, I ended up not having to pay the connection charge as long as stick with them for 18 months and make 10 calls a month.

They'll spread it out over your monthly DD's if you ring and ask. But I agree the initial charge is an utter joke :( Bloody girlfriend getting us into a crappy contract!

I'm moving into a property next month, if the line is active now but the vendors are moving out, will I need to pay the connection charge?

You can also pay the £122 monthly if you ask them.

Went with Sky in the end myself, much to my displeasure.

Just be careful with this as when I had a BT line put into an old flat they told me they would spread the cost out over the months but then threatened me when they added it all to my first bill and I didn't want to pay it.

I was told by BT it would be spread over the next 12 month, then the NO SWEARING!!! hit me with it

I'm also wondering this, the line is physcially there. I heard you can get the fee waived if you moan enough.

Around 6 years ago when moving into a new build with the missus we were allowed to spread the cost over the first 6 bills, which helped immensly as she had just started her teaching job and moving is damn expensive.

Moving house with BT also resets the duration of your telephone line contract. But one things for sure, come April when my Broadband contract is up they'll not be getting another penny from me. Utter crap.
