New BT line - connection fee's?

Arknor - mate of mine did that last year, when he was told the cost of reconnection he hung up, phoned them back and claimed there wasn't a line in the house. Got it for £9.99 at the time, engineer didn't let on when he turned up.

If you're worried, go with the Post office for homephone only. They pop the £120-ish connection fee on the first bill, but thereafter you're only in a rolling monthly contract. Twinned with free weekend mobile/international calls, it kicks BT a bit!

But yeh, it's tough to avoid that fee sadly. You might have the line at your house, but an engineer might need to go connect it at several points along the streets. Grr!

when i moved house, they wanted the connection fee even though the house had a line coming in. it was not wired up to my flat, technically. as it is now a converted house into four flats. so they sent someone around and they broke the telephone cable from the house. it was lying in the street. so i cancelled and went back to virgin.

I've just been laid off at BT, but the connection charge for the new year with VAT increase is 124.99. Don't go with BT though, they are *********.
