New Budget PC - Please advise.

Hello Cookeh,

We covered this all in your thread two weeks ago . . . I think it would be better to work on a single thread per project, means the other posters don't have to work as hard to help you and it also cuts down on the forum becoming clogged with essentially duplicate threads! :)

Oops, forgotten about that thread! Sorry.
Looking back it had all but died, without giving me anything terribly useful except for some benchmarks :p

Yeah I understand, sometimes threads have ups and downs but I would say its better to make an effort to bring a few weeks old thread back to life instead of making a new thread on exactly the same subject . . . I'm aware you have a limited budget and kinda struggling with an older Socket 478 Pentium 4 but you have plenty of good info now on how to move forward and no matter how many threads you make and no matter how much you talk about it your are no closer to bringing your dreams to life until you get the funds . . . Paper round, asking Parents if you can do some chores to earn some extra cash £££ and any other money making scheme you can think of . . .

If you can't think of any get-rich-quick angles then maybe make a thread in the General Discussion subforum to see what ideas people come up with! . . .once you get some extra funds sorted you can get to the fun part of actually buying and building your new machine . . . coming from a seven year old P4 to a modern/affordable system is gonna be really nice for you! :)

Good luck Cookeh!

I have more funds than I did then!
Getting a job in a few weeks as well - so was trying to get a spec arranged before hand :p

Last few questions then:

1). Is it worth forking out the extra money for a 8series chipset over say, a 785G or 790 chipset?

2). Is it worth checking out MM to see if I can pick up a gfx card cheap? Or are second hand gfx cards as risky as my over imaginative mind makes them?

Keep an eye on the MM after this weekend. As long as my new build goes ok, will be shifting some of my bits in my sig. The CPU, GPU and mobo for definite.

I certainly shall.
How long would you be able to hold out on selling though? :p Definate interest in cpu and gfx

Well, I will stick them up for a decent price and would prefer to shift all three together. Will definitely wait a few days to let my new rig settle down. :)

Not really, unless you can find an 870 board for a great price then i still think the 770 chipset is the best base for a budget build when a dedicated graphics card is being used.
