New Bugatti Chiron revealed: 1480bhp, €2.4m, limited to 261mph

I dunno. I'm sure it's impressive and all but it'll never reach the heights the Veyron did when it launched.

funny, was watching the original top gear video on the veyron the other day when they said "we'd probably never see a car like this again" and how this was "the concorde moment"

Good to see that hasn't been the case.

those "heights" were only because such a car was made. See above. Problem is now that other production cars start to near 1000 hp we've just become used to it. They've pushed the boundaries again with this car which now has 1500 hp in a production car with a warranty that will do 260 + mph. It will reach every heigh that the veyron did, we're just not shocked by it any more.

limited to 261mph?

What's the point? Are there even any roads where you could hope to achieve that speed while still having room to slow down before hitting something?

its a case of willy waving that the car can do more but that's the most the tyres can take. iirc bugatti recommend you change the wheels on the veyron every 3rd set of tyres, such is the stress on the tyre rim from the force the veyron is capable of putting on them at full launch as it twists the wheel around the rim of the tyre. Tyres have always been a limiting factor for the veyron, its why they had to get new tyres made especially for the car to cope with that level of stress.

That's exactly what I meant ;)

The Veyron shattered everyone's perception of "fast car", but this just won't have the same impact. The next time a car achieves Veyron like levels of publicity and amazement, it will probably fly.

You'd think the next big thing would be getting this sort of performance from an electric car. But the tesla P90D in extreme mode is already pretty much there with 762hp. The original veyron was 1001 bhp at launch.

Stick joe public in either and use their "butt dyno" and I bet few would be able to tell the difference, especially with the instant torque delivery advantage of electric. It would probably feel faster than a veyron off the line.

I mean, its nice, but it isn't the most attractive hypercar out there. Not sold on the rear at all!

I think its absolutely awesome. I am not sure how you can be interested in cars and be negative about a car like this. The engineering is incredible, to make a road car travel at 260 miles per hour is amazing.

I also think it looks sensational!!

What is the business case for making this car? Its not like the use it to sell other cars under the same brand.

I thought the veryron was always an engineering exercise. They must have learned a lot making a road car capable of these speeds and who knows what other application that might have.

Edit* looking into it at the debut of the chiron the president of Bugatti said this "It is part of human nature to cross boundaries and set new records – to run 100 m faster than ever before, to fly even further into space and to enter new realms. This striving is also our driving force at Bugatti."
