New build £700

If you are good enough to build your own system then I think you should be easily capable enough to overclock. Also for £10.00 more you can get 2gb of crucial ballistix pc5300 memory which is a lot better than the ocuk value stuff.

many small details that need to be known in order to overclock its not just a matter of reducing multiplier and then upping the fsb as im sure you'll know...ram timing dividers voltages and even gettin around the bios and finding all these options without messing everything up may not be the simplest of task for some of us..some of us may not even be willing to take the risk since it maybe the pc this person is buying is something he saved up for months and doesnt want to risk it all by making a mistake overclocking...

my point you shouldnt really encourage people to overclock if they arent 100% sure of what needs to be done and all the small bits and bobs that you need to know
If you take the time to read the guides properly there's little chance of bodging it up.

I think the only time you stand to damage things is when you try to rush things, skipping guides and playing with settings you don't understand.

Read, read and read some more, take it slowly and you won't go wrong.

It is true that you can mess up your PC via overclocking so that is why I was careful to note that there are no guarantees but even with new and exciting options for overclocking that never used to exist it has become easier than ever to do. There are good guides to follow and provided you don't just slap all changes on at once plus if you are unsure then read up on the options you are changing then it is a very low risk comparative to the gains that can be made. :)

You could start with the Overclocking forum... ;)

A good understanding of the settings in the bios and decent cooling are pretty much essential, then go from there.
