New Build £700

you'll need an additional card for wireless, or get a usb one.
post your final decision so we can have a look once through ;p

I dunno how to do the cool links like you guys have done, but I was thinking of going with Honos £730 spec, because you've both said pretty much exactly the same thing and I do like the idea of being able to upgrade to dual GPUs if I ever decide to. The wireless card I have says 54mbps, I'm assuming that'll do the job fine? Or is it worth me grabbing a new one?

i steal his advise ;p

54 is fine

Cool, probably just go with 7, also, do MoBos come with Wireless cards or is that another addition that I'll need? As I have an old one from the same computer as the sound card and if I can reuse that I will. That's my final question, I think I've got a spec I'm happy with, muchas gracias gents, I'll post pics of the build etc when it's done.

Chill with the still fella lol

There's no rush and we are happy to answer questions. If you only want to do a single GPU maybe consider a mini-itx build with wifi built in?

That's just to give you an idea, I splashed out a bit on the cooler but you get the idea. If you have £80 spare now for an OS i'd use it on a SSD or towards components. Use the developers copy of windows 8 for now, come october you can buy the OS and make an informed choice between 7/8.....hell maybe 7 will be cheaper then too

I want to go full size because with my last build, albeit a few years ago, the wires were a struggle for me and it looked a mess. I can't imagine going smaller in size it'd be any better lol. I do want to build myself, but I want it to still come out looking reasonably clean. I think that you've gone for a water cooled system in that too? And I really don't want to go down that route with this being my first build for quite some time, I can imagine me going seriously wrong lol.

Good advice on the OS, I'll probably do that considering the amount of good things I've heard about SSDs.

If I was to go with a single GPU, the 7850 you linked, and later on upgraded to dual, how much of an increase would I notice? Or would it be more of a future proofing exercise?

Wow, I didn't realise it could give such a big performance boost. I think I'll definitely go with the ASRock board now.

Looking at Honos spec, what sort of FPS should I expect on games? I know that could be hard to estimate, but I have no idea what kind of specs produce what nowadays after being so out of the loop for such a long time. A few friends have asked me to play WoW again, I can imagine it'll destroy it, but the likes of BF3 etc, will it handle them with ease?

Well this is why I'm using a modular PSU so you dont have a mess of cables that aren't used. The CM unit makes sense for the price.

The cooler i used is a closed loop system. It's not as fiddly as watercooling, it also means you don't have to limit your choice of RAM to low profile either. Stulid is currently running a better version in his rig I think. He can tell you himself they have their place.

If you want 3 screen gaming as a viable option you really need to be using Xfire or SLI. Again you need to balance what is important to you for the price and what suits your eye.

We are always willing to answer questions or help you through problems

What's the difference between a modular PSU and a regular one? I don't think I'll go with the smaller case. I don't know why but I just prefer the look of a bigger case. Plus I'm looking at this from my point of view, is there any benefit on top of the size? Like cooling or anything? As the computer may be on for long periods and overnight depending on what's required.

I do like the idea of the closed loop cooling though, just as a halfway step between water and air. Although again, I think I'd rather stick with what I know for this build, and then maybe consider changing once I start to upgrade bits.

I doubt I'll ever go to 3 screen gaming, but two is a possibility. Although I'm not sure what monitor to get yet. I've looked at this;

My last monitor was a 19 inch CRT.... So even though that might be a smallish screen compared to some others, it's a upgrade that was super expensive when I had my last comp :p And with the price being as low as it is I can see myself going dual screens at some point, it'd just be an upgrade a little later on after stuff like the SSD etc.

Cheers for the info, I feel like a complete novice again lol.

Edit: Just spotted this on offer;

Is this a worthwhile purchase?

you plug in the cables you need for a modular psu. non-modular psu comes with a mess of cables, so there will be extra cables sitting on the floor of the case

takes up less space ;p
as long as its cooled sufficiently, both specs can be left on 24/7
(i leave my rig on all the time, its np)

clc is more expensive for the same cooling power as a standard air cooled heatsink. but as a tradeoff, it looks slightly neater (arguable) and allows you to use high profile ram.

i'd go for the samsung over the benq, the benq is a *va screen, its gonna be real laggy for fps games. and the samsung is 23 inch vs the 22 inch for the benq ;p

Thanks again for all the info Tam, does the modular PSU come with the cables or do you buy them seperately? I placed my order this morning, went for Honos' spec apart from I got the Samsung SSD instead of the 1TB HDD and I'll just use my external HDDs as storage for now and grab a HDD later on. and I'll order the Samsung tomorrow probably. Looking forward to the build.

Awesome. Cheers guys for all the help, I look forward to showing pictures of my perfectly neat build :p and benchmarks once it's all running. But I've gotta say I just can't wait to get my game on now. Diablo 3 and more importantly, Planetside 2!!!
