Hi, I am getting close to the build config I want but could do with some advice on a few things.

The configuration is going to be something like this:

- BenQ GL2760H 27 inch LED Monitor
- Zalman Z11 Plus
- Corsair 750W RM750 RM Series 80 PLUS Gold
- Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 5
- Intel Intel Core i5 4670K
- Zalman Reserator 3 MAX Ultimate Liquid CPU Cooler
- Crucial 2x4GB DDR3 1866Mhz Tactical Tracer Orange/Blue
- Crucial 2x4GB DDR3 1866Mhz Tactical Tracer Red/Green
- MSI GeForce GTX 760 OC 4096MB
- Samsung 250GB SSD 840 EVO
- Hitachi DeskStar 1TB
- Asus 24x DVD±RW DRW-24F1ST SATA Black
- Asus Xonar DG 5.1 PCI
- Asus PCE-N15 300Mbps 802.11B/G/N
- Zalman Blue LED Keyboard and Mouse Set
- Venom Vibration Gaming Headset XT
- Thrustmaster GPX

- Budget is between £1000-£1500, would like to overclock it as best I can to something like 4.5Ghz - 5Ghz.

- Would the Power Supply be enough or should I pay a little extra for the Corsair 850W RM850 RM Series 80 PLUS Gold?

- Also what about the Cpu/Motherboard/Memory, would this be a good setup or should I look for an alternative?

- I can get the Avexir 2x4GB DDR3 which is 2400Mhz for slightly more, would I benefit at all with this?

- Also if the motherboard states for memory compatibility that the speed needs to be overclocked does this mean I can not run it at native speed?

For example:

1066Mhz
1333Mhz
1600Mhz
1866Mhz(OC)
2133Mhz(OC)
2400Mhz(OC)
2666Mhz(OC)
2800Mhz(OC)
3000Mhz(OC)

What speed would the Crucial 1866Mhz or Avexir 2400Mhz run at? Do I need to overclock the memory to reach its native speed or something?

- As this is my first intel build for nearly 4 years ago I am unsure also on which processor would be good for gaming, I like the looks of the i5-4670K but again advice needed please.

Could really do with advice for this build, many thanks in advance

Hi,

A few pointers.

• The Gaming 3 board is currently being supplied with a Corsair gaming headset, it supports SLI too.

• Crucial RAM have not had a good time with Gigabyte Z87 boards, I am not sure if the same is true of Z97 but I personally would be looking at another RAM manufacturer.

• To get the RAM working at its rated speed you set/load the XMP profile so that the board reads the data off the RAM and sets the speed/timings/volts up correctly.

- In regard to the motherboard I am thinking would Asus be a better option in terms of performance/overclocking? I am not too worried about a multi GPU setup, the free headset could be a help, really not sure what good motherboard to go with. I hear the Maximus Hero is good but looking to keep th cost down if possible.

- If I stook with the Gigabyte board would the Avexir memory be good do you think? I don't really know much about them.

- Do all memory have XMP profiles? I assume you do this from the BIOS then as well?

Thanks :)

The 750W PSU will easily be enough for the rig as it stands and possibly enough if you add another 760 in at a later date.

For another £10 you can get a 770 and as a 4 gig card is still overkill ATM the 770 is a better card. the 280 non-X is roughly £200 and the 280X is £230+ and both sport 3 gig ram if ram size matters.

Most ram has xmp profiles for easier overclocking.

With Haswell the CPU is more important (silicon lottery) not everyone is getting past 4.4-4.6GHz.

The Gigabyte gaming range have a 4 year warranty if you register within 30 days.

Avexir are good, so is the TEAM and Kingston.

The TEAM i pointed out is exceptional, fast speed and low timings.

Yep pretty much all do these days.

You go to the advanced memory section of the BIOS, select the XMP profile and save+exit, simples.

Sweet thanks a lot mate, gonna juggle a few things around your basket you posted. Would the i7 really be needed though or can the i5 be as good?

Wasnt my basket, but its close to something I would have suggested.

I have read many times that a i7 is best should you go for two or more GFX cards. I use i5's with a single fast GFX card and have never felt lacking while playing games.

Sorry my mistake, I'm posting off my phone which is annoying me today!

Thanks for the advice :)
