Hi guys, I'm new to this forum but I come seeking some advice about my current build. More specifically my current graphics card quandary.
I've had my current build set up and ready since January and initially I was holding out for the 69++ series of ATI cards, thing is most people are reporting horrible noise levels with the 6970/90.
My initial plan was to go with 2x 6970 but I also briefly flirted with the idea of getting the 6990.
I can't help feeling the dual card solution has advantages and for now, my intentions lie in this direction. Still I'm stuck here STILL waiting for a non-reference HD6970 some months after release and it's starting to annoy.
The noise on these cards is a definite passion killer here, so my mind turns to a full water-cooling solution which frankly intimidates the hell out of me, it's a lot of work and risk. Still it's something that intrigues as it's not something I have tried before. But if so Where do I go for this? The sheer amount of plates/ connectors, pumps, tubes, random gubbins is a tad overwhelming, Ive no idea whats good and whats mediocre, I might have to pass on this unless I can find an exceptionally good kit to go with.
Lastly it's the monitors these ATI cards have Display Ports on them but for the life of me I cannot bloody find any at a respectable price, especially as I intend to buy 3 at a minimum of 1920x1200 resolution each.
I figure adapters will probably do the job but seriously what am I getting here? There seem to be a few around but am I buying female or male to female to male dvi cables here? Supplier information tends to fall a little short on what exactly the connectors are on the back of the card/monitor. Regardless, using adapters is something I'm not entirely comfortable with but the alternative is a little too spendy.
Tl;DR:
Hold out for non-ref 6970
Buy them now + after-market cooling or full on water cooling?
Display Port adapters to DVI or Display port Compatible monitors (min 1920x1200res) @ ~£200
Any advice will be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.
The rig so far:
CM Scout
AMD Phenom II X6 1090T BE
Asus Crosshair IV Formula
8GB Corsair Dominator 1600 C7
