New Build - Advice please?

I have used this board extensively and can tell you that if you have the choice to dump it - do it.

It can technically work with quad cores, but it really doesn't like it. As for overclocking a quad - it is not fun.

To be honest, im not really thinking of overclocking. I might do it at some point, but i'd rather not buy for that purpose as im not planning on it.

The point is, you will need to overclock a Q6600 - as a 2.4GHz Core 2 will not be able to keep up with your 5850/5830 in modern games.

Yea, it clocks well with dual cores (I got a E4400 2.0GHz to 3.3GHz), but quad cores are a different story.

I currently have an E6600 and two gigs of really terrible ram i picked up for about 30 quid.

My GFX card was a 8800GS which blew up yesterday. Was planning on a upgrade anyway so now seems like a good time lol

might as well get a whole upgrade.

you would need to buy a DDR2 4gig kit to start with, which isnt worth wasting money on.

sell the motherboard and cpu, buy one of the above specs- sorted.

Mmm looking at ebay prices and selling my current parts, i could well go with the second setup, with the ram later suggested.

Thanks a lot for your help guys :)

with that in mind, and everything you need, I have come up with this.

The motherboard supports crossfire, so in a few years time, just add a second 5830.

one single fast graphics card, but no crossfire, for obviously more money

Stulid, sorry to trouble you again, but how do you do these screen shot things that you seem to do a lot of?

make the basket up, hit the PrtScn button, load up windows paint, paste the image into it, save the image as a jpeg or Png, photobucket website, upload the image, it then gives you the direct

Hi again.

So i bought the parts suggests, put them together and the rig runs like a dream. Thank you very much for the advice.

There is something i'm a little concerned about though.

While idle, my GPU runs at about 36-40C. While playing a fairly non challenging game it goes up to about 60C (such as League of Legends), and then while playing a recent MMO with good graphics (Darkfall) it goes up to about 75-80C.

I know thats a little high, but not massively over what i should be expecting. My gripe is with the noise of the fan. While playing Darkfall its so loud its actualy annoying and i can hear it from down the hall in my flat, i know high end graphics cards make a fair bit of noise but this is abit beyond what it should be.

I'm abit concerned about turning down the fan speed because of the temperature. Do you guys have any advice?

Thanks once again.
