Hi guys,

I'm after some advice about my new gaming build that I have been piecing together recently. Been a buyer from OCUK for years but never been on the forum before until recently and looks like a great community. I would be grateful for some help with the following.

So far I have bought the following:

mobo

cpu

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-358-IN&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=1859

memory

Graphics Card

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-254-AS&tool=3

For power I am hoping to get away with using my old PSU which is a Corsair HX520W modular power supply. It's a few years old but still going strong. Will this PSU be ok for this new build?

I still need to buy a case at the moment I am torn between these 2

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-212-CM&groupid=701&catid=7&subcat=29

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-221-CM&groupid=701&catid=7&subcat=29

I am leaning towards the Cooler Master CM-690 II Lite as I prefer the looks. Will both cases fit the huge GPU?

For cooling I am looking to get the coolermaster hyper 212 evo

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-035-CM

I also already have a 500Gb sata drive and DVDRW.

So hows all that look? Any major issues or advice?.

Cheers

Matt

Nothing seriously wrong there,

If this is mainly a gaming rig then a i5 2500K is all you need in terms of CPU power as the extra feature of the i7 2600K are no use to PC games.

As you can see here - http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/288?vs=287

The only other thing is the RAM you want is very tall which means using that chuncky heatsink could cause fitment issues,, try these,

Will be ok.

Wow thanks for the fast replies :) The PC will be mainly used for gaming and HD film playback. The reason I went for the i7 2600K was I managed to get a very good deal on it that I couldn't refuse in a bundle with the ram and mobo :)

As I already have the mobo, cpu and ram what cpu cooler would you guys recommend over the cooler master 212 due to the memory height issues?

I am glad to hear the PSU will be ok least I can save some money on that for the time being.

So the GPU should be fine in the CM-690 II Lite?

Thanks

Matt

Cheers guys never played with water before though so a little reluctant hoping to try and keep costs down as my budget seems to be ever expanding and has gone way beyond what I originally put aside. Always seems to happen with new builds lol.

Would like to find a cooler sub £30 if possible.

Problem is the ram will most probably interfear with the cpu cooler.

How dead set are you on that case, you could drop the case down and put the money saved to the cpu cooler.

Yeah kinda set on it love the looks of it. Would the ram be ok in the 2 farthest slots away from the CPU DDR3_3 and DDR3_1 (channel B) then I wouldn't need to worry about it unless I upgrade to 16gb?

It's worth a try, worse case you might need to mod the way the fan mount's on the cooler.

Hello and welcome to the forum :)

You might need to look at memory with low profile cooler, as the memory specified may interfear with the cpu cooler.

The PSU should b fine running your setup.

Case wise, i like the CM-690 II Lite :)

Optional cooler:

And memory:

+1 to this memory and cooler.
can also highly recommend this case;

Well gone ahead and ordered the CM-690 II Advanced and the CM hyper 212 evo looks like it should be ok after doing some research. It's due to arrive on Thursday so i'll be putting it together this weekend hopefully it will all go to plan :)

Will let you know how I get on and put some pics up for future reference.

Cheers for all your help so far.

Matt

Well got it all setup and it's a beast :) so happy with it. I can confirm that the Corsair Vengeance 8gb does fit with the CM hyper 212 evo as long as you do not need to use the slot closest to the CPU.

I also bought a new PSU in the end Antec truepower 650W really nice and quiet PSU.

Thanks for all you help and advice guys really appreciate it.
