Hello all,

Used to be here back in 07/08, always sound advice from you guys. Am looking to build a new PC to replace my e2160/2gb/atix550, back when Crysis came out I bought a 8800gt and a nice Cosair VX550 even came with a carry bag so must be good, is this gonna cut it with an overclocked i5 and something like a HD7950 or whatever the HD9xxx equivalent will be?

Also whats the deal with overclocking Haswell's, can you overclock the non K by using memory higher than 1600mhz? or should you stick to the K's for overclocking and just up the multiplier using 1600 or combination with 2133+. If its all about the multiplier (for a basic overclock for value) is it not essential to have a Z87 chipset then if memory is untouched. whats cheapest way to get the most out of an i5. Last time I played around with PC's was running e2160 @3.2ghz. Whats the rule of thumb with the current Haswells.

Thanks

Well, how much would you want to spend on your new build?

For haswell, you need a Z87 board along with a K chip to overclock. The RAM won't affect the motherboard you get etc, however Haswell does prefer fast RAM so 2133Mhz, will be ideal.

What type of overclock would you be wanting to get?

Not really sure what is possible, new on the current scene, I remember back in 07/08 it was really easy to get a huge overclock on a cheap cpu, I would be looking at the cheapest i5 k haswell and would want whatever is the stable max on air. Why do I need 2133mhz ram, is it just not a case of just upping the multi?

Looking at spending around 500 but only need SSD, Mobo, CPU, GPU and Ram and probably a new optical drive. Assuming my VX550 is enough for a 7950 or 9xxx equivalent.
