Hi all,

I need 2 new PC's and was thinking of getting them pre-built from OCUK. I have built my last 4 so could be tempted to build again instead. I was looking at the 'Titan Storm'.

Could I get much more for the same money building myself or do you think this spec is fine? With the newer mother boards how simple is it to overclock the 5820 to about 4GHz?

They will both be used for gaming, and one will be also be used for video editing and after effects, plus heavy design work including photoshop, illustrator, indesign, and maybe some 3D rendering. I would lower the ram to 16Gb on the second machine.

Price for each anywhere around £1500-2000. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

Hi.

You will certainly get more for your money if you build yourself.

Are you just looking for the towers without OS and keyboard/mouse etc?

What resolution do you game at?

Hi Stulid

I will need OS, not worried about keyboards/mouse. I have a 1080 currently but was looking at getting a couple of 1440's. They are separate from the PC build costs.

Placed into a silent case so you can work in silence:cool:

Those look good Stulid - thanks.

Would they be easy to overclock? I am not sure how the newer motherboards are.

I've just read up and I'm guessing I don't need 8.1 pro.

The Gigabyte Z97 is easy to oerclock, I've used loads and can show how.

* One tip is to make sure the BIOS is up to date as the later ones use less Vcore at stock so temps are lower.

The ASUS I haven't used, but it should be similar to Z97 just the BIOS will be laid out differently and some things will have different names.

If you think you need Win Pro because of memory limits? don't worry, Win8.1 standard has a huge memory limit of 128GB.

Is the cooler on the 'gaming' PC better than the one on the others? I think I can lose the DVD ReWriter's, and do you think that a GTX 970 would be enough for now?

And the main difference between the two bigger builds is the processor and memory - I would have thought the 5930 would have been more expensive than the 5920 - not the other way around!

The cooler on the gaming PC is a water cooler, its not as quiet as a good air cooler.

A GTX970 is good for 1080P and 1440P gaming.

Both rigs are ready for a 2nd GFX card too.

The 5930K bundle is more expensive, but I included faster RAM in that 3rd spec.

All sounds good, I'm going to have a look over everything and then work out a final list, thanks for the advice Stulid! :)

No problems.

Remember to post back here what you are going to buy etc or ask questions and I am more than happy to help:)

One tip for X99 is maybe to not go over 2666MHz RAM.

The 3TB Black isn't worth it.

A 3TB Barracuda, Toshiba just as fast.

Looks tidy apart from that, but even if you decide to leave the 3TB Black in, still great.

I wasn't sure about the black - I have always used WD and never had any issues, I read some people had problems with the Seagates? I was debating a red or a green but wasn't sure about speeds?

Will the cooler be enough if I overclock? Is it quiet too? I was also wondering why I wouldn't use this instead of the watercooling on the gaming PC? I was debating getting the same case for the gaming PC too - it seems better, looks nicer too, and would match.

Ive had Seagtes and WD, never had any issues with either.

Current using a 3TB Red and a 2TB Black, both as storage drives with a SSD as the main OS and game install drive.

That cooler will let you overclock, it's quiet, also as it's in a "silenced" case it will certainly be quiet.

There is only one Antec P280 left.
