New build advice please

Hi everyone. I don't post often as I don't like to waste peoples time and only when I am serious about buying.

I'm currently finalising a new build having decided on:

Case: Corsair Obsidian 900D.
CPU: Intel i7-4790k.
MB: Z97 MSI Z97 Gaming 5.
PSU: Cooler master V850.
Cool: Dark rock Pro 3.

I'm 90% decided on going with 2x GTX 970 Gigabyte G1 gaming graphics cards (thoughts on this choice are welcomed).

Undecided and really need some help please:

Asus PG278Q ROG Swift 27" G-Sync 144Hz OR
Acer Predator 4k2k XB280HK 28" G-Sync 60Hz?

I need to pick a SSD 1TB (or close) and would appreciate advice please.

I would also like any advice you can give me on a Keyboard that's good for gaming but with very quiet keys?

Kindest regards,
Divi

No bits purchased as I thought I'd just go for one delivery. As for RAM I'm searching for low profile ram as I understand the cooler is big and can block some slots if larger ram is used (according to reviews I read)?

**Edit - Budget (forgot to add this sorry) = Not more than £3500 but as close to £3000 as possible.

I would choose the Asus over the Acer but if you are looking for 4K then look at the figures for the 970s to make sure you will be happy because the cost you will be putting down on that build you wont be wanting to turn the settings down.

SSD you usually can't go wrong with Samsung but I tend to choose Corsair but that is purely brand matching in my build.

I do think a 750D would be better suited for your build and the cost saving could go towards the SSD or maybe pushing to 980s.

All are personal preferences really, only thing I would reconsider if I was you is the large 900D and then double check you will be happy with the performance of 970 SLI @ 4K.

Thank you for the swift replies!

Edit misread sorry*

Thought I would go with the 900D because it is so future proof. Has everything I'd ever want for years to come.

with the keyboard selected is says audible click (in customer comments) so would not be a good choice for me.

A good keyboard is mechanical, they all click, some are better than others, perhaps a blue cherry switch will be better then? I had a sample mechanical switch tester and thought they were ok.

It's a mechanical keyboard, I wouldn't recommend blue if you wanna keep a quiet profile. Black/Brown switches are probably the quietest, but the best thing to do is get a feel of what you'd personally prefer.. Have a Google/Youtube about different switches before making a choice of buying a mech keyboard, if at all.

Thanks for all the advice - it has been incredibly helpful. Helped me make up my mind on a few things. I spent some time looking up reviews for what was suggested and I have decided to invest in:

- The Asus PG278Q ROG Swift 27" G-Sync 144Hz.
- I've also decided to go with the Palit Geforce GTX980 - Reviews look amazing for this so thank you for the tip!
- Going to also go with the Samsung 1.0TB 850 EVO SSD.

I'm going to look into the keyboards in much further detail and then make a decision later.

One last question:

I've been looking up headsets and this one:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SP-072-SN&groupid=702&catid=1058 seems to come out brilliantly in reviews. What is your thoughts? Are overclockers likely to stock them again?

The 900D is a waste of money imo if you are not doing a custom loop, as it is geared towards water cooling.

You can get a case such as the Phanteks Enthoo Luxe for half the price, and it will easily fit any build in it.

The only reason I picked the 900D was because it's future proof for the next few years and I have the room. If I decided to water cool at any point I wouldn't then need to invest again.

I am hoping to water cool eventually but I haven't built up the confidence or knowledge enough to do it yet (despite a whole bunch of research).

I think trying to futureproof is usually a bit pointless. I did the same when I built my own pc by putting a 750W psu in, as I planned to crossfire in the future (7950). It never happened thanks to the Bitcoin crew snapping all the AMD cards up :D

If you are not going to do a full custom loop for a few years then there will undoubtedly be better cases out by then. Your current spec would easily fit in something like the Phanteks Enthoo Pro @ £89.99.

In the future when you decide to watercool the 900D will probably cost half of what it is now.

I always think it is best to buy what you need 'now' and not worry about what you might do in the future because it usually never pans out anyway :D

That is just my opinion. If you want the 900D from the start then that is obviously your call.
