Hi guys.
Xmas is coming and I'm gonna change my PC. I had it for 5 years or so...
Pretty excited to get my new rig,
just wanted to check with you if my choices are good.
motherboard compatibility. good OC capability.
Ram
PSU enough wattage?
gpu 460 or 470. bang for the buck...
can't spend more than the total around £700

Cheers everyone:)

Not sure if its just me or not but the pic won't work?

*edit - you linked to your album rather than directly to the image. Fix it when you can :)

Spec looks ok but why go for AMD and the 1090T? Barely any games will use 6 cores so only things like encoding will benefit.

If it is primarily a gaming machine, I'd go for the i5 760 and a decent p55 motherboard instead

I think I fixed it!
well I'm not a pure gamer, even though I do play can't wait for dragon age 2...
I do some video encoding as well
I did not want to go for the i5 because it's near the end of its life.
I truly enjoy running thousands of apps at the same time. I was thinking that soon more games will use 6 cores, bad company 2 does it already.

I can still oc it to 4ghz can't I?

Thanks for your advice

you have picked a crossfire mobo with a nvidia gpu, the gpu will make the crossfire feature useless.

i would change the mobo to this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-402-AS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1782 if staying with nvidia gpu

or the gpu to this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-109-MS&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1866 with crossfire upgradability in the future to make full use of the board. and the psu is more than capable of adding another 6870.

also change the ram to this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-203-CS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517 but is currently out of stock.

im guessing you can use the dvd drive and hdd from your old computer.
if your overclocking i suggest to get a cooler, if on budget something like the artic freezer 7 pro rev2, CM hyper 212, gelid tranquillo or if you can stretch a little bit either the fenrir evo, akasa venom or thermaltake frio would be my choice.

ok
why this particular mobo it is still crossfire isn't it? an Iam concerned about bios compatibility with the x6 on this one. I thought I needed 890 chipset.

tHANKS A LOT ANYWAY!

The board can do crossfire, but the second PCI-E is limited to 4x.

The board will be able to run the x6 ok.

Specs below:

i see.
The thing is the 470 is way better than the ati 6870 wich is equivalent to the nvidia 460 1024

no amd board with SLI?

I don't think I will crossfire anyway, b the time I get the money for that there will ne a single Gpu better than the crossfire...Am I wrong?

I think you need the 980a chipset from nvidia which Ocuk don't sell, Asus one below:

Benchmark below shows the 6870 vs other cards:

oh and the proper replacements of the 5850/5870 are out next month, so might be worth it to just wait.

oh crap,,thinking ahead here, been listening to christmas songs too much and the presence of snow has got me thinking its december XD

+1 to change of the ram. I haven't followed the link but assume it is Corsair XMS3, the gold has had quite a number of reported returns.

+1 to motherboard change as its a feature you can't use. If you swap Nvidia out then you can use the crossfire feature and it would be worth using a more expensive board.

Jony any idea on a date?

skyline,,stupid me,,sorry nvm that post XD

thinking ahead here, been listening to christmas songs too much and the presence of snow has got me thinking its December XD,then just checked the time/date on my laptop and its still november XD:rolleyes:

would you outrule the Asus M4N98TD EVO nForce 980a and using SLi with a 470?

if the corsair xms3 is still out of stock(doubt it) on the day your buying the components then go for G.Skill or Patriot, just be cautious of the tall heatsinks they have(may not fit under certain/large coolers).

alright, thanks a lot.
So i'm still highly tempted by that am3+ mobo with Sli (Asus M4N98TD EVO), no sata 3 nor usb3 but does it matter? 1 ide but I only have 1 optical on ide...

Because I don't really like the ati 6870. Id rather get the nvidia 470!

well as you said, by the time you get a second gtx 470 for sli there would be a single card that is more powerful than the sli gtx 470.
so i would juts get a "normal" am3 mobo. this system would keep you going for quite a while
