2 x Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5850 Extreme 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card **OcUK Exclusive** [11162-15-20G]

Corsair Professional Series Gold AX850 High Performance 850W Modular Power Supply (CMPSU-850AXUK) [CMPSU-850AXUK]

OCZ Vertex 3 120GB 2.5" SATA-3 Solid State Hard Drive (VTX3-25SAT3-120G) [VTX3-25SAT3-120G]

yup bit of better upgrade path going for newer/better single gfx,

going for 2 cheaper/slower/oder cards means they will have less resale value when you want to upgrade,

but with 1x6970 you can add another down the line for an upgrade if your mobo/power supply support this or sell it on and get a new single gfx card.

just a couple of questions before i check to see if i can save you some money

when you say video, do you mean video editing, or just watching videos?
what is the budget for the entire PC?
will you need an OS, keyboard, mouse, monitor, etc, or is it just the tower?
i see you havent chosen a case, hard drive or optical drive. are you planning on nicking them from a previous build, or do you want new ones?

Already have Os, case (nzxt phantom), monitor, storage drives etc.
cooling air
Hard drive ssd as stated.
video occasional encoding more viewing tv/video
background apps running for speech to text and phone answering (other disabled apps and equipment to be added later)
budget no more than £1200
dont want to upgrade again for a long time hence higher end kit

Thank you for your interest and advice so far

since your not going to be doing a lot of video encoding, then something like this will probably be better:

just a quick question, do your DVD drives and storage drives use IDE (massive ribbon cable) or SATA (small flat cable) to connect to the motherboard

if they use IDE then it will probably be best to pick up a cheap IDE PCIe card. dont go for one that uses a PCI card if possible as this will seriously limit the airflow of the graphics card it is near
