New Build Advice

very nice :D

Tax writeoff! woop woop

Now that I have this new rig coming, what kind of overclock could I get from it do-yah-reckon? Not that I'm massively fussed but old habits die hard. My current system I did a small overclock then just ended up going to standard (just XMP etc). But tinkering can be fun.... If there's some quick easy wins then I'm all for it.

overclocks dont exist anymore. you're better off undervolting and allowing the boost algorithms to work their magic
so:
1) ram: enable EXPO in bios
2) cpu: set curve optimiser to -10 per core in bios. you can go all the way up to -30 but as always, individual chips behave differently (i find -10 is safe, i've not seen one fail on a -10 optimiser, you can work your way up to -30 if the cpu is stable)
3) gpu: undervolt the 5080 with msi afterburner (curve editor)

ok cool, sounds very straight-forward. Cheers, I'll give all that a go and push it a bit but keep it well within stable, as it'll already be fast enough really.

System is all built, feels very snappy! Unreal Engine 4.27 project rebuild would take 47.70 seconds with my old CPU and now takes 40 seconds, so that's shaved off 7 seconds.

Debugging from Rider IDE to it launching UE4.27 used to be 30.81 seconds and now takes 7.41 seconds so that's a massive improvement. :D

I'm just looking at doing some easy overclocking to get a better PC Mark score (27,725). With graphics being 32,735 and CPU being 14,848. That seems OK but I would have expected a little higher.

I've set the RAM to XMP (my RAM doesn't do EXPO). I've also looked at the PBO bits, AI is saying to manually set my PBO with the following:

PPT Limit: 300
TDC Limit: 215
EDC Limit: 300

I tried a negative curve of -10 but the system became insanely laggy, the BIOS was unusable so I had to clear CMOS. I could try -5. Any pointers? The MSI BIOS isn't the clearest.

just leave these at auto and just set curve optimiser

is the io voltage (vsoc) set correctly?
make sure this is no more than 1.25v (1.3v max safe)

It might be easier to find your sweet spot for an offset using PBO Curve Optimizer via Windows, then applying it in the bios. You used to be able to do it via a light weight third party program more or less on the fly with AM4, no idea if you still can or not but I believe the Ryzen Master software includes similar?

I don't think I'd get too hung up on all of this however, unless you really enjoy faffing about or you're having issues with heat or whatever.
