Hey everyone,

Im planning on making a new comp over summer and this is the sort of the rough plan for my build, any advice or lil mess ups on my behalf would be great.

The motherboard and memory im plannin on using are :

Gigabyte GA-M59SLI-S5 Socket AM2 NVNF590 onboard audio ATX

Crucial 2GB kit (1GBx2) DDR2 PC2-5300 CL=5 UNBUFFERED NON-ECC DDR2-667 1.8V

No it isn't, it's the fact that C2D is vastly superior at the moment and if you buy anything else you're wasting your money.

ooOOoo i was always under the impression and most places i looked, was told that it was just preference, even the guide on here said it was just preference

Probably hasn't been updated for a while, the new line up from Intel is really great.

The HSF is poor, get a Tuniq Tower or Noctua

3 80GB HDDs  better of with two/three larger HDDs

CPU get a 6320/6420/6600 (depends on your budget)

M/B DS3P is good

Really, lose the AMD love, go with whichever is best and at the moment the Core2Duos really take the biscuit...and the cake, and the milk.

You'll just be robbing yourself if you don't go C2D.

Yeah, even out of the box they outperform AMD at stock. Combined with a good motherboard and RAM and you can overclock the socks off it. AMD are in the shadows as far as CPU market is concerned.
