Hi All,

I have been reading this forum for awhile now and trying to take as much of the advice on board as possible.

It has now come to a point where I can think about building my own rig after watching lots of build videos etc.

Budget I'm thinking approximately about £2000 ish all in (less cost would be nice!) need monitor, keyboard mouse etc as starting from scratch just don't need windows.

This will hopefully replace my PS4 and need to get another console (PS5 etc when released). Would like it to last a good few years with minor upgrading along the way.

Games I play vary quite a bit from Football Manager, GTA and FPS, open world games also really want to get Cyberpunk 2077 when its released.

I'm also leaning towards AMD CPU due to costs but will consider anything suggested.

Screen wise due to space I'd probably limit it to 27"

Thank you in advance for your assistance!

You could save £100+ getting a lesser case and Crucial MX500 M.2 drive. Plus, the memory is a place holder get:

Crucial Ballistix Sport LT ~£80 - better quality and clocks to ~3600MHz

£30 cash back on motherboard via Gigabyte Steam Vouchers.

Build is an example to get you started an an idea of what you can get for your money:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £2,116.93 (includes shipping: £28.02)

Thank you! that's a great start one other thing I forget to mention is not bothered about RGB etc. Rather better components than looks etc.

Great - re RGB.

The above build is built with silence in mind - you can save money buy adding a significantly cheaper cooler (or keep stock), swapping case for a quality cheaper model (half the price).

Thank you :) silence is good as it's probably going to be in a share space i.e. living room so probably look at a good quality headset as well.

Would shaving off the components you mentioned case etc be worth it to upgrade to a 2080 super or not really?

Thanks lots to consider, points on GPU and Crucial Ballistix Sport LT memory noted.

I always liked the NZXT H500 case anyway as watched a few build videos using that one! also watched a few in the Phanteks Eclipse P600S case.

If going for a case like the H500 would adding more fans be recommended? i.e. P600s appears to come with 3 installed to the H500's 2?

basically you'd want your operating system and all your programs on the ssd - this is the thing that will make your system feel snappy and responsive.
and also depends on how you see it, some people like to segregate their data, some won't.

the reason to get 2 drives is that the 2nd drive will be the mass storage drive, where you store all your big data files such as porn pictures and video files.
this drive doesn't have to be a fast ssd. a normal hdd will do...so can save some money there...if that's what's required to meet the budget.
one big 2tb nvme ssd for ~£280 vs one 1tb nvme ssd (£150) and one 1tb hdd (£40) - the price difference is ~£100

another thing to consider is the risks of potential failure:
1 drive = all data lost if it fails
2 drives = half data lost if it fails, but double the chance of failure since there's 2 drives involved
(but as always, backup, backup, backup)

(of course there's other things like RAID with running 2 drives...but i won't get on to that)

Guess it's something you can always add in at a later date anyway!

I really think it's worth squeezing in an Ultrawide monitor when you are on this sort of budget, it is the only thing you can's upgrade or change once you've committed, and it makes playing games way more immersive due to the peripheral nature of our vision.

Feel free to pop over if you get stuck since it is your first build, @tamzzy will tell you I'm not a (complete) nutter. :)

Thanks buddy that's really kind.

Any recommendations on ultra wide monitor? :)
