New Build Boot Problems!

Im in need of some quick help please guys.

I set up my new build, and installed xp, all working fine. After that I went for a bit of an OC, got the E4500 from 2.2 to around 2.6, while running ORTHOS it stalled and stopped responding.

I restarted the computer after waiting for anything to happen - it didn't - but not it doesnt get past the Gigabyte screen, when I turn it on it beeps, which is a good sign.

THe board is a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L Intel P35, with an Intel E4500 and an ATI 3870XT GPU.

Any ideas anyone? I've tried clearing the CMOS by shorting the jumpers, but that didn't seem to do much :(
 
That gigabyte logo does that appear as soon as the pc reboots?
Does it beep befor the logo or after?
Does it display ary othe info ram check etc/what cpu is in?
Have you tried pressing f1 on the keayboard or del to enter bios screen?
 
If above dosnt work it might be worth unplugging some thing like hard drive or a stick of ram. If all else fails i would strip the pc and rebuild.
 
it might be doing something being the gigabyte logo, as soon as the system boots keep hitting the Tab button (i think) and this should remove the logo, now you should be able to see the ram count up (if it isnt the Tab button it may be another button which should be stated in the manual but there will be one)
 
Thanks for the help guys, I removed a stick of Ram, and managed to boot into windows, and then managed to get it working with 2 sticks, but now it's back to not booting.

I'm thinking I need to get into the BIOS and up the Ram voltage? The stock is 1.8v if I'm right, whereas the Giel Ram is rated at 2.1v?

Have you tried pressing f1 on the keayboard or del to enter bios screen? F1 does nothing, but pressing tab on startup gets me to another screen, but I can't do anything from there.

Okay, more news :)

Managed to boot with 1 stick of RAM (didnt boot with the other alone though :S)
Raised the ram voltage by +0.2v, and about to try with both sticks.

All this has definately made me reconsider overclocking it!
 
Yet more news from me!

I now have the ram voltage at +0.3, so 2.1v, but it still won't get past that screen when I have the second stick in, I'm thinking I may have a dead stick then? Suprising as it was working before?
 
Yes the Geil ull ram needs the voltage set to 2.1v (i had problems with my mobo before i set it to 2.1) also make sure you are using ram slots 1 and 3 (both the same colour slots) not 1 and 2. This does sound like one of your ram sticks is borked if one boots and the other doesn't.
 
Tried it with all the possible different slots now, if the second stick is in there, no matter what slot, it just doesn't get past that logo screen.

As nice as it is to have it narrowed down to 1 component, it's still annoying, as I guess I will need to send the RAM back as a pair? Which leaves me with no other RAM to use in the meantime, meaning i still can't use this computer.
 
i noticed you said you overclocked your pc in the past now you have reset your cmos. what settings do you have in your bios e.g. your front side bus, multiplier, cpu to ram ratio, cas ras tras etc ( don't know if you know this but when you get your main bios screen up if you press ctrl + F1 you get extra options). Just wondering if everything is set right after resetting the CMOS
 
As far as I can tell, it's all at stock, the only thing different is I have disabled the throttling option as I don;t like it.

When I did clock it I always had the Ram at stock speeds or less.
