New Build Computer Problem!!

Yeah i believe so, on the ram stick it says:

Geil GV36GB1333C9TC Brush Titanium Aluminum / PC3 10660 / 6GB / 1333MHz / DDR3 / 240pin DIMM / Triple Channel
1.5v
CL: 9-9-9-24

Just trying a new install so see what happens, just finishing so il update shortly.

Would i still have to ammend the BIOS even if its new installed? Doesnt it default to factory settings?

Ewan

Nope. the BIOS should, but sometimes GeIL requires you to edit it,
Check the RAM voltage is correct, and also check the timings
CAS, tRCD, tRP, tRAS is 9-9-9-24

You should default the bios settings before you reinstall. It could be a setting in the bios that is causing you grief. Reset the bios.

I would start over and use a slipstreamed vista setup disk with all service packs.

You can only reestablish your overclock on a machine running correctly.

cheers, andy.

im away to buy a new hard drive to see if thats the problem, I currently have a 1 TB drive so am i best to buy the same again so if its not the original hard drive thats the proble then i could set them both up as RAID?? Correct me if i wrong ;-) lol

Does 2 hard drives in RAID configiration have to be the same size/speed etc?

Ideally yes, you can shortstroke (make partition smaller) them to be less than or equal to the smaller one, but identical model is best.

Only testing will tell, it may work but not all drives are equal in speed or data density, I assume you are going with striping to speed the disk access. A hardware raid would be best to reduce CPU overhead

Yeah im kinda new to the more advanced computer setups etc and this is my first build so learning as im going. Yeah i believe RAID 0 is better for performace (striped) and RAID 1 (mirrored) is lower performance but increased reliability. Im more for the RAID 0 setup for the better performance but little bit nervous. Mabye its just me!

I would still go for stability at standard settings if you have not tried this, before adding to complexity.

Back to my original problem, I have just tried playing a game and the game kinda froze then re-loaded but the graphics was all over the place. I had to reset the game and it done it again. Its when i was going from windowed mode to full screen.!!!

Is it possible it could be my GPU thats causing the problem??? ie with the startup issue as well?

Well i am one happy bunny, I have installed a Nvidia GTS250 and it works perfect. No freezes on startup what so ever. I dunno if this is meant to be a good GPU or not!! i just picked it up from the shop to try it. (knowing i couldnt return it) lol

I done a benchmark with the old HD 4870 x2 (2gb) and got score of 297
I have now done one with the GTS250 (512mb) and got a score of 722!!

So something is obviously way wrong with my original GPU.

Thank you all for your advice the last few day, much appreciated.

Ewan
