New build - display problem

I have just built a new rig for my mum, and installed her old version of XP - run all the updates etc.

Problem is im getting serious lag when dragging windows around. The same thing that happens on soggy old machines that are almost out of memory.

Apart from this it is lightening quick. What could be causing it?

motherboard drivers? and graphic adaptor drivers?

yeah i installed everything on the CD that came with MB. Its the integrated HD4250 on GA880-UD3H.

could be the lack of ram for the onboard gpu, bios option to use some of the system ram?

yes 128,256, 512. I have 4gb installed shouldi go for 512?

Changed to 512mb but didn't fix it. Any other ideas?

Ok im getting the latest VGA drivers from Gigabyte. Ill report back if not fixed.

Sorry was a fresh install of windows?

Could try running hd tune or hd tach to check for hard drive performance and possibly mem test the ram, just to rule any possible hardware problems.

try the chipset/raid driver again

OK i updated the ATI Drivers and its much better.

Yes its a brand new install. Complete new build.

I will run some hardware tests just to make sure but it seems ok, Ive been on W7 for a while now so I can't remember how smooth XP should be. I have a feeling im going to have to start over when she decides to get W7 anyway.
