I just built a new pc this morning, nforce 680i LT motherboard, 260 216core gtx,
4 gb ram, 500gb hd, aftermarket cooler, 850watt Powercool psu, E400 core 2 duo 3.0ghz.

Plugged it all up.

doesnt start up, the motherboard has a blue light in the corner above ram but thats normal apparently, ive taken everything out apart from cpu, 1 stick of and harddrive to try to start it but still it doesnt turn on!, ive read the motherboard manual step by step, could this be due to a faulty motherboard? some of the capasitors are slightly bent, but bent them back straight, the mb has a 8pin 12v which i got 2 x 4 pins but works well apparently but no luck.

any info would be greatly appreciated.

thanks
karl

take it out case, make sure case isnt shorting mobo
if no joy then remove everything and try powering up just mobo, see if you get the right error codes, if so add things back one by one til you find out whats wrong, if not then its prob mobo

ive tried it with just the cpu and still doesnt work, nothing happens at all apart from the little blue light on the mobo

2 x 4 pin = 8 pin 12volt

20 + 4 Pin power

and the cpu.

this is such a pain! why would the blue light still turn on if the motherboard was broken though, and I would have thought the psu would at least power on and start spinning, the little light on the back of the psu comes on when i turn it on at mains

I meant to try booting with nothing in, no cpu, no ram, no gfx, that way, if psu + mobo are ok, you should at least get error beeps when you turn it on, if you do you can then diagnose problem from there. if you dont its either psu or mobo, try old psu, I had one b4 where it had enough power to light the LEDs but not post, so could be psu, or could also be mobo. But if you try without anything and get beeps, it points to something else, then try adding things back in, cpu 1st, then 1 RAM stick, etc

Take the psu to a local shop to test it if you dont have a tester yourself. Will only take a few seconds for them to do. I've had psu's go before that would power various lights but wouldn't give enough power for a post.

EDIT**

Could be the mobo as I did apply quite a lot of pressure on it if im honest, if only id of found them spacers sooner! :( new mobo then i guess

680i will probably need one of the latest bios's to run a E8400, if its still using its original, that might be your probably.
