New build: Fans speed up, no display, HDD light not coming on

Is this faulty RAM?

Edit: I seem to have confirmed that my problems are caused by one stick of faulty RAM. But since Im a newb, I just wanna know if others think the same. Skip on down to the bottom.

Hello there, just completed building my first build:

Phenom II 955
Asus M4A785TD-V Evo AMD 785G
G.Skill Ripjaw 4GB
Seagate 7200.12 500GB
OCZ ModXStream 500W
CM 690
Palit GTX 260

Now when I press the power button, everything powers up, all the fans are on, the GTX 260 kinda spins up then slows down, then speeds up then slows down etc.

Ive checked the VGA cable by trying another one, its not that. The monitor works. The modular SATA cable works since when connected to the DVD Drive, the dvd has enough power to open the tray. The light on the mobo lights up green, but theres no speaker to it, so I cant hear beeps or anything.

What else can I check?

Im very grateful for all help, its my first build and Ive checked everything I can think of. Connected the VGA cable to both the GPU and the mobo, neither give a signal. Im guessing the lack of HDD light is relevant?

All power connectors connected including the 4 or 8 pin for cpu power.
Reset the CMOS, if that fails try each memory module individually just in case you have a faulty one.

LED for HD may need the connector to the motherboard turned 180deg.

Reset CMOS by taking the battery out or by moving the jumper? How long should I wait after Id reset to start again?
 
I tend to use the jumper, then re-boot pretty after the jumper is back in it's right position.
 
Clearing CMOS didnt work. Then tried one stick of RAM at a time, no HDD, no optical drive, different VGA cables, using HDMI cable

Next thing to do is take the GPU out and try again. Or could I jus leave the GPU in with no power to it and try?
 
If that mb has onboard video then take the GPU out to eliminate this. IF the GPU is plugged in it should override the onboard so best take it out for now and try it that way.
Definitely worth trying to post a pic or two of your internal setup, makes it easier to notice if something strange is going on.
 
Agree with Dutchman test with internal gpu, another thing to check, not sure this will have any bearing on the problem is to check the ram is in the correct slots.
I had the problem with my build, put the ram in the wrong slots and the system would not boot.
 
Right well, here are my finding after a while of tinkering around

- After testing both sticks of RAM in all slots, Ive discovered that one stick of RAM is faulty. Running on barebones (1 stick ram, no GPU, no HDD, no DVD Drive) it boots and gives me display with stick A in any slot, but no display with stick B in any slot. With both sticks, again no display.

- Running with stick A and GPU = no display.

HDD & Optical drive seem to be working fine as the computer will boot with both of them connected. So if it safe to assume that I have to RMA both GPU & RAM?
 
Update: Computer now boots with Stick A & GPU :D

As for compatibility, surely if one stick works, the other should as well? If both of them refused to work together, then it could be a compatibilty issue. If neither of them worked alone, then it could be a compatibility issue. If however one works alone, while the other doesn't, sure its because stick B is DOA?
