New build so cannot use anything from previous one apart from peripherals and monitor. Here are my current specs for reference

2500k (oc'd to 4k)
8gb ram
512gb SSD
rx390 oc'd
1080p screen @ 60hz

Most of my gaming these days is on the tv via pc and I've just bought an OLED so it's new pc time to drive 1080p @ 120hz and 4k @ 60hz. I've also got an Oculus Rift and have my eye on next gen VR like 5k Pimax.
I'm okay with mild to moderate overclocking of cpu and graphics card but I can't be bothered going too into it.
Will be playing games like Witcher 3, Dishonored 2, Fallout series. I like to heavily mod my games for more eye candy so it will need to keep up.
Another requirement will be noise, I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of power in exchange for not being able to hear the pc over my games.

My initial thoughts were something like a 1080ti, ryzen 2700x, bequiet! darkrock pro cooler. Not keen on full water cooling as I'm too lazy to do maintenance but wouldn't object to an AIO if it made system quieter. For the case, I don't care what it looks like but would like a quiet one.
I've built my last two rigs myself but I may palm this one off to Overclockers if the price isn't that much different.

All of those games... Will run at 1440p, around 60fps, quite easily on your rig (maybe add another 8gb ram for like £30) if coupled with a gtx1080... 1080ti would be better though. Would save you the hassle of re-installing windows, and it seems from your post you want to save hassle.

However, 4k @ 60hz really you should check out the 2080ti - The 1080ti can only just about do 4k on todays games, a lot it can't, and it certainly won't do it on future games.

Plus... How much is your budget? A rig that's going to do 60fps @ 4k is going to be EXPENSIVE;

As a test, I've added a 4k rig to basket and it comes close to £2000 (with a 2080ti)... With pretty basic parts at that (i5 6 core, 1tb HDD, 250gb SSD, £50 case, no windows).

With windows, an i7 (7800k) a decent £90 case, 500gb ssd + 2tb storage, better psu and mobo, £2300 fits more comfortably.

Sorry for the late reply.

Preferably new as I can't access MM, don't want to risk ebay, and will keep the rig for 5 years or so.
My tv can only do 1080p @120hz or 4k @60hz so I either stick with maxing out frame rate at 1080 or try to keep up minimum frames at 4k. I haven't actually done any 4k gaming yet as I need a 20m or so hdmi cable so I don't know if I would even be able to tell the difference at the distance I sit.

As the title, I was looking around 2k but I can stretch for a decent increase in performance. I'll probably be looking at a 2tb ssd as I get too lazy to manage my HD space. No other storage needed.

@Gti

You could easily fit a 1080 ti or RTX 2080 into a £2K budget. Are you open to building your own system ? A 1080 ti or RTX 2080 will do a better job at 4K than the Vega 64 which is roughly on par with a GTX 1080.

Does it have to be pre-built or are you happy to build yourself?

If it’s for gaming I would go Intel, if it’s for productivity plus some gaming then I’d go Ryzen.

It doesn't have to be a pre-built but if there's not much price difference I would be okay with letting someone else build it this time. It's for gaming, no office work or such. I was leaning towards an AMD processor as I believe there isn't much difference at 4k and I could use the cash saved for the GPU.

Yeah not much between Intel and Ryzen at that resolution. Reason for building yourself is you get to choose the parts rather than having your hands tied with the pre-built options. Also building your own gives you better satisfaction if you have the time to do it :)

It's been a long time since people have been able to casually say that! I hope AMD continues to improve and don't let Intel enjoy an almost monoploly on CPU sales.

Yeah AMD are really pushing Intel which is good for the consumer :) All we need now is a GPU from them that can rival the 2080 ti.

At highe resolutions I’d be going AMD.

Ocuk prebuilts are decent. I wouldn’t have someone build a pc for me, but as I’ve said before I totally get your reasoning.

Just aim for top end Ryzen, at least 16gb of ram, and a 1080ti or above performance.
Store as much as you can on SSD, and spec a decent power supply.

ocuk don't seem to let you pick higher than 3000/3200mhz ram on their prebuilts and I read that ryzen needs high speed ram to get the best of it.
I've been playing Mad Max at 4k, 30hz with vsync enabled...I know it's not the most taxing game but it plays pretty well. I'm mulling over buying a 1080ti and postponing the new build, maybe until the next ryzen comes out? It would scratch my itch for another year or so and 4k seems to be gpu rather than cpu limited.

You can speak to Customer Support, they’ll help out with any spec you fancy.

If you don’t want to upgrade yet, then don’t. What’s your current system?

I was considering the same thing, i ended up doing a new build. I’m bench testing my 8700k vs 4790k, and the FPS boost I got at 3440x1440 is way larger than I thought it would be with the same GPU.

I would be very interested in your results. From everything I've read unless it's a CPU intensive game like an MMO or 64 player fps server, there shouldn't be much difference at 4k.

2500k @ 4ghz
8gb ram
R9 390

I didn’t do anything intensive I’m afraid. All I can tell you is on MGS5 I went from 80 FPS @3440 medium/high to 120FPS ultra. Both CPUs overclocked.

That was completely my understanding too; higher resolution doesn’t benefit from a more powerful cpu. But games are definitely running way better with the same GPU.

Although part of it will be the watercooling, the GPU is boosting to over 1900Mhz and staying there now, I haven’t overclocked it at all yet, it’s just GPU boost doing its thing. Temperatures stay below 45C.

would leave £600 which is still good for a new core system later on. see how you get on

not quite 4k but does allow higher then 60hz game play

? I have a 4k tv which I will be doing my gaming on while on the couch so a smaller monitor isn't what I'm after. I have been looking at that 1080ti though.

WantoN, I think the boost would play a large part if what I have read/seen on youtube is right, perhaps you could disable/limit the boost to get a truer reflection? In any case congrats, that's a lovely increase. I don't think I could do a water build the maintenance puts me right off.
