New build for Crysis/EP2

Just got my first blue screen of death since the new build. Not sure what happened.

I'd just installed Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 to burn an audio CD. I got this software with an old CD burner & I love it because it's so simple & does the job. But when I installed it I got some sort of warning about ...... something! Anyway I ignored it & installed, which it always does okay anyway despite that message that comes up.

I started the burn process & them left the room to do something else. When I came back the CD burn had completed & ejected but I had the old blue screen of death!! I re-starting windows I got the usual 'system recovered from blah, blah. Anyone make anything of this?;

try it again, but be there this time so you can see what happens. what OS are you using? XP or 2000?

its possible that Roxio is causing some conflict that caused your system to BSOD. you could try uninstalling it.

have you "primed" your system (run Prime95 for a good few hours) to make sure its stable? even at stock it might not be stable.

:(

Have you done anything yet with your voltages in the BIOS, particularly the memory voltage? I gather there appears to sometimes be some voltage issues with the DS3R boards, where it sometimes overvolts memory slightly. Sometimes (with some brands of memory) this can also cause instability. I also believe the latest BIOS makes monitoring the actual voltages being used from within the BIOS easier/clearer. So I'd suggest updating your BIOS, then checking your BIOS memory voltage settings, and upping or downing it as appropriate for your specific RAM's requirements, before doing anything else.

Yes it does (suuport Firewire). Too late now, sorry! Exactly (one of the reasons) why I prefer the DS3P.
I wish I had of realised at the time I would have spent the extra £20 to get the Firewire enabled board. I use Firewire for my DV cam & I was sizing up a pro audio interface that was Firewire. I naively thought that all boards supported Firewire now. I thought it as common as USB2!! Doh! I'll have to try & buy a cheap Firewire 400, or preferably 800, PCI card now.

Why are you all saying a 1950 Pro, Wouldn't that jerk a lot on crysis?
I guess that was to do with my budget. Besides, the X1950 seems like a pretty damn good card for the money. It should handle Crysis okay but I doubt very much I'll be able to play with everything on high. That would require a much more capable rig that would have been outside my budget.

I've not messed with any memory timings or voltages in the BIOS. I don't do any overclocking at all.

Yes I wasn't trying to say you did. I was pointing out that the DS3R boards sometimes *default* to the wrong voltage for the RAM, thus causing instability in the system at stock settings, thus requiring you to actually go into the BIOS to correct it.

It seem almost certain to me now that the Roxio Easy CD Creator software caused the problem ecause it happened again - THe CD burns, but the CD creator dialogue doesn't display the burn progress properly, then when the CD has finsihed burning the computer crashes to the BSOD!!

I've now removed this software & installed CD Burner XP as recommended on here (in another thread). That works fine & I have no ore crashes ....... so far :rolleyes:

BTW, Been playing Crysis demo. I used the scan system for settings tool under the graphics section. That defaults everything to MEDIUM on my system. Runs very smoothly. Not sure about those default settings though. I think they were all on MEDIUM before I performed the scan system thing. I might try upping things a little & see how it runs. Hopefully Tweak Guides will do a guide on Crysis before long (I guess when the full version is available).
