Been a while since I built or been interested in hardware (still rocking a 3600…)

Nephew has shown interest in buying a gaming pc, now obviously prices are sky high so trying to do on a budget. Might even look at creating a wanted thread for some MM parts. But I have managed to find a cheap build but wanted to check my sanity that it's not awful.

Cpu - 5800X £163
PSU - CORSAIR CX650 80 PLUS Bronze £47
Memory - Lexar 16GB DDR4 3200MHz UDIMM Desktop Memory £118
Motherboard - MSI A520M-A PRO AMD mATX Motherboard £48
Gpu - 8gb 5060 £239

Add a cheap case and a ssd I have lying around for £50ish and we're looking at £665

Anything I'm missing? I understand it'll be hard to ever upgrade from this, but that comes with the budget constraints really.

Im not even sure I could do any better second hand.

Keyboard, monitor and mouse is already available.

I think I'm better off with a 5600? And maybe a b550 board.

The a520 is very barebones, maybe a different one if you can find for a little extra?

Depends on the games but for most part a 2nd hand 5500x3d at around £180 is the best price for performance youl get from AM4.

You can get 2nd Ram for around £60 and put that savings towrods the 5500x3d and a slightly better MB?

Yeah, you used to be able to find a 5600 variant around ~£100 fairly easily, but AM4 availability is not great lately.

If the PC is never going to be messed with, I'd even get a 5500 instead, since that won't bottleneck a 5060 much. 5500 also is limited to PCI-E 3.0, so a low-end board doesn't matter.

5800X is better suited to a future GPU upgrade.

If you wanted a better standard of PSU, I'd go for the TUF 650 Evo @ £70. it has an 8-year warranty and is A-tier rated on SPL's PSU tier list.

With RAM prices as they are, a board with 4x slots is very helpful, since it gives you more options and 8GB sticks can be had cheaper.

Thanks, yes space is a premium so was hoping yo get away with a cheap mATX board and case.

Dos your nephew play any perticuler games now?

Fifa and farm simulator...

He wants it to play farm simulator with friends, with mods etc. But no doubt that'll expand into more stuff as he discovers steam and cheaper gaming.

Same price but This is a better PSU and comes with a 5 year warranty.

Looks like this guy will accept £85 for 32gb Crucial vengeance Pro RGB 4x8 GB DDR4 3600 MHz Cl18 . You will need 4 dimm motherboard or sell 16gb.

Thanks, will make a wanted thread or such whenever I have the cash to get it. I could just use 16gb in my own machine :)

For those games a 3600x is going to be fine to run it and they are around the £65-£75 mark.
DDR4 16gb at least 3000mhz is around £60-£70ish
Motherboard £89 - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/giga...ddr4-micro-atx-motherboard-mot-gig-06023.html - has 4 dimms for later upgrades
psu £48 - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/msi-...0-plus-bronze-power-supply-pow-msi-03345.html

For aroudn £280 build there with your case and SSD, may need a cpu cooler depending on if able to sang one with the cpu or MB.

9060xt 16gb £380 - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/asus...-pci-express-graphics-card-gra-asu-05995.html - Will get you to around your inital build price as well.
