After deciding to remember to disable the NCQ it would seem that the problem is solved

Installed all the drivers and software without issue, so I think the problem is gone - I'm glad I'm going to finally get away from my reputation as a techy helper among family friend circles - still pocketed 20 quid though, tis a cheap night out
After finding there is no pr0n on this study PC, I'm off home
