This is my first build, Gigayte GA EP45 UD3P with a quad core 6600.
System boots from the cd, but the hardrive is not seen by the bios during the setup. Booting with linux the harddrive is not there.
My harddrive is a Samsung HD321kJ
The Gigayte oard has two SATA interfaces, One via southbridge and one gigbyte specific.
Have not make any changes the bios
would appreciate any help.

First things first check all your cables or in...

SATA data cable in both motherboard and hard drive
SATA power cable is correctly plugged into the hard drive

Can you feel the hard drive spin up when you power on?

cables

yes cjecked cables and exchanged cables. Connected harddrive to GSATA port (gigabyte interface) and southbridge. No difference. Harddrive is spinning.

Right well if its plugged in have you checked in bios whether your SATA is set to Raid or IDEMODE (often has other names)

If it is set to raid then it will require you to setup the drives as a raid array before they are seen (but you state you only have 1 drive)

If they arent to be raided set it to standard IDE mode so they show up as something like HARD DISK 5 or 6 etc :D
