Hello All,

I use to game on a laptop but sadly that died due to overheating and just wear/tear over the years.

I am now looking to move to a desktop to play RPG/FPS and Strategy games (Skyrim/Battlefield/Total wars etc) and need some help configuring a desktop.

My budget is £2000, micro atx build or mid build is what I am looking for. Also like the look of the Lian-LI pc-Q37WX Mini-itx case tempered glass, thoughts?

Currently looking at getting LG 34UC88 34" 3440×1440 Monitor but will happily change depending on the build. (Ps I have a separate budget for the screen)

Any advice would be greatly appreicated.

Many thanks,

Hi there welcome

Is space an issue ? I would personally stick with ATX as that gives you the widest choice of components. There is usually a bit of a price premium on smaller form factors.

Any preference for Intel/AMD cpu and Nvidia/AMD gpu ?

I guess your overall budget is around £2700 for the tower and screen ? Need anything else like a mouse/keyboard etc ?

Space isnt an issue but the again don't want anything to big.

I normally got for Intel/Nvidia but open to suggestions.

Yes l, the budget is around £2700 for screen/tower. I do need a a decent keyboard/mouse but can do with out in the short term to get a decent tower rather than splash out on it now.

Also calling @orbitalwalsh for his input.

Will break this into 4 parts,

Not the best spanking lists but gives you a ball park for the cases you like .

Nothing wrong with the one you chose but it just limits you a bit more on choice and upgrade options in the future. Also some ITX cases are pretty big anyway so kind of defeats the object of wanting a smaller form factor build in the first place :D

Do you like the Cube style cases ?

To be fair Im pretty open to case shapes etc, it is the ability to view more of the components which I like.

Thank you!

On a side note, is it worth getting an RTX 2080 than the 1080ti (Around the same price)? I could always then get an RTX 2080 ti and use dual graphics?

pro's and cons for both , believe you have higher bandwidth with the 1080ti as well as higher VRAM for pushing 4k, but RTX have better HDR coding , though non of the above screens i linked are HDR , not a lot actually out, bar some £2k monitors...

2080ti is a massive leap ahead though over the 2080/1080ti

really pushing your limits, doesn't have vertical mount for GPU or even case fan at the moment but get a stunning case, rtx 2080ti and a screen that will suit well with it !

using vega can land you dual cards to power the screen nicely. BUT! you'd have to check that games you play support XFire support etc

Your a star mate! Thank you!

No worries, love the lian li case. Keep forgetting to ask if theyll do an ITX version of the dynamic , hope they do as will be able to shave off £100 due to change of material and tooling used.

Case fans can always be added along with RGB .

Can get Freesync hdr2 monitor and GPU cheaper then Nvidia and Freesync, only problem may both 4k/1440pnuktra wide and can't drive it as hard....
Yes two Vega 64 can still same price as 2080 , but have to know over 60% of games you play have good multi GPU support as if not that's £400 sleeping etc

Yeah I do like the lian li cases though also don't mind some of the Be quiet ones either.

I have to say I pefer Nivida compared to AMD gpu's, however when it comes to processors it is a close call between Intel/amd for gaming by the looks of things.

You have been amazing help getting me familiar with the basics, I have a few hard choices to make but you have certainly set me on the right path!
