First off a bit of history, used to be really into PC gaming/overclocking and dread to think what I've spent on gear over the years. However since moving out a few years back and the massive loss of desposable income hitting home, I've had my current system for 4 years, which is as follows;
DFI Lanparty nForce 4 sli-dr 939
AMD opteron 146 @ 3 ghz (remember these bad boys!)
2 gig Geil DDR PC3200
Geforce 7800gt
Tagan 480w PSU (Cant remember model but it's the first Tagan that came out)
Antec P160
As you can see, it's now fairly gash
so I'm thinking about upgrading to the following;
Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2 Intel P55 (Socket 1156) DDR3 Motherboard £86.99
Intel Core i5 750 2.66Ghz (Lynnfield) (Socket LGA1156) - OEM £142.98
Patriot Sector 5 G Series 4GB (2x2GB) PC3-12800 1600MHz Dual Channel (PGV34G1600ELK) £70.99
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium - Retail £66.99
Western Digital Caviar Green 750GB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (WD7500AADS) £49.99
Samsung SH-S223B/RSMN 22x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter (Black/Silver/Biege) - Retail £20.99
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2 CPU Cooler (Socket 939 / AM2 / AM2+ / 775 / 1156 / 1366) £19.99
Total - £469.83
Not really into the PC Gaming scene anymore as it seems to have died on it's arse, so I'm thinking I'll just reuse the 7800gt I have. PC will basically just be used for day to day tasks, and my addictions to Football Manager and running too many apps at once
Few basic questions;
1. Has case design moved on sufficiently that I should bin my Antec p160 and get something new?
2. Will my tagan power supply be up to the job of powering this? I may get an Ati 5750 in time but if I can use this power supply for the time being I will.
3. Is 8gig of ram pointless?
4. Is the heatsink fan any good for some average overclocking?
5. Any glaring deficiencies/recommendations?
Ta in advance for help.
