Just built my mate a new computer. The motherboard is a MSI 965P Neo. I have two IDE Devices one HDD and one Optical Drive connected to the boards one ide channel. The computer boots up fine but the drives are not found at the post screen or in the bios itself so I cant even install windows. I have tried all jumper settings trying each one as master and slave, even tried a new cable but they still do not show.

Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance.

Sounds sort of familiar, make sure your connections between psu and ide drives are good. Use a dedicated cable from the psu to each drive just to make sure.

Thanks, but I have tried all that, the HDD and the CD drive has power and I can hear the HDD spin at boot. Its like the IDE channel is not there.

i believe you cant/or isnt a good idea to connect your hdd and optical drive on the same cable?

I only read this so its nothing set in stone :)

Ive tried both of them separate and neither of them shows, Im losing my mind here. After looking around it looks like its to do with the JMicron controller but its all as clear as mud. Will OCUK let me send back the board for another?

I didn't mean the same cable, I meant 1 dedicated cable per drive. Sorry about that. :D

As far as I can see there isnt anything to show the JMicron controller in the bios. I think the JMicron controller has its own bios as before post there is a JMicron screen showing both drives but I cant access it. Then at post and in the bios no drives are shown.

Not possible as this board only has 1 IDE connector.

fair enough. But I'm referring to the power cables, from PSU. That is, run two power cables from the PSU directly to each component: 1 for HD, 1 for the optical drive.
