Hello all.

I've recently built a system for a friend and all originally went well however now he says it occasionally freezes and needs rebooting to unfreeze.

I've taken the unit back from him and randomly it freezes. There seems to be no logical reason that I can think of? it can run Orthos fine for hours but it then freezes occasionally with random usage (ie Firefox, browsing photo's, Word etc). It can be as often as twice in 10 minutes or once in 10 hours.

The components are:
E5200
Asus P5QL Pro
2GB XMS2 800
9600GSO
700W Sparkle PSU

I've ran Orthos, Memtest and all temps are fine - Any suggestions because I've run out of ideas?

The psu is massive overkill so we can rule that out unless it has a fault. Do you have the latest bios for the motherboard? If not get the latest bios and then clear cmos and re-enter all the settings. It can help a lot sometimes. Intermittant problems like this are the hardest to sort out.

What hard disc has he got, try running some diagnostic software, like of Seagate & WD have there own software to test.

Was the operating a system a fresh install.

I know, it's driving me mad!

The OS was freshly installed (XP SP3) but I'll try another install.
Bios is up to date so that should be okay but I'll try clearing the CMOS.

Thanks for the help so far.
