Hi, recently put together this HTPC, having some trouble.
cpu - AMD Phenom II X2 Dual Core 555 3.20GHz Black Edition
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-265-AM
mobo - Gigabyte GA-880GM-UD2H AMD 880G (Socket AM3) microATX DDR3
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-278-GI
hdd - Samsung SpinPoint F4 EcoGreen 2TB SATA-II 32MB Cache
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-097-SA
ram - OCZ Gold 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-183-OC
power - Corsair Builder Series CX 430W
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-059-CS
blu ray drive - Samsung SH-B123L/BSBP 12x BluRay ROM
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CD-140-SA
Okay, so the computer posts, then I can see the hard drive and blu ray listed fine and from looking in the bios a bit I can see the RAM. So I think everything is all connected up properly.
So I try installing Windows 7 64bit from a USB stick a BSOD appears a couple of times while trying to do this, and I switched the USB stick to another port (which happened to be from the back to the front) and removed other cables except the HDMI, power and PS2 keyboard. The installation manages to get to the blue windows wallpaper and hangs there for a good 10 minutes before setup starts - on my much lower spec laptop this takes about 30s to pass... Eventually windows 7 gets installed, it goes to starting windows (the windows logo) then it BSODs and restarts...
I think it could be to do with the memory settings? I Have the voltage correct but im not sure about other settings.
Or something to do with changing the SATA port from AHCI to native IDE? but it was on AHCI and I changed to IDE and got to the same point with both, crashing after getting up to starting windows logo on a new install?
Or maybe my version of windows 7/USB stick is corrupt? I would try a DVD install but I have no blanks, could get some if needed. I have other USB sticks I could try though. But I made a bootable USB twice on it one from windows one from linux so I dunno.
Right now I am downloading ubuntu 11.04 64bit to see if it will work. Sorry for the long winded explanation but I wanted to describe in as much detail as possible so i'm not missing something stupid.
THANKS!
