New Build Help

Thats not bad atall, walderX. Personal i tend to stick to either of nikel or acetal rather than mixing.. Its just better that way, less chance of contamination.

Looks good though.

My spec will be along shortly and will be something a bit unexpected. :)

Ahhh see I would never think of that, I just thought it referred to the colour rather than metal type! I'm looking forward to doing my own watercooling build but need access to the members market first to sell my rig off...

Okay, to my spec. I hope you like orange. :)

Firstly, let me explain some key decisions.

  • I went for the 4770k and z87 motherboard - I did this because with 2 GPU's the 4700k will not bottleneck you (unless there 7990's) and currently more than 2 cards gives you rapidly diminising results. so my idea was 2 of the BEST GPUs on the market in a 4770k rig
  • Lots of orange - spray paint the rings on the fans orange for extra awesome.
  • the 900d is too big for a rig of this size, the 750d is much more suitable
  • RAID0 SSDs for super fast loading
  • 780ti's instead of 290's - the Ti's are currently the best GPU on the market (bar the TITAN blacks).

Enjoy:

Though id mount the 240 rad at the front rather than the bottom.

Like it? :)

Thanks for your time, i will look into this spec future when i get home. Looks good to me just need you pros to confirm before i start placing the order.

Many thanks

Doomed - does your build have enough radiator to cool 2x 780Ti and and overclocked i7?
And is 1 pump enough for this?

I'm only asking, not criticising, as I myself am still learning about watercooling and have never done a build myself!

My build has an additional 360mm of radiator, and 2 pumps - I assume it would run cooler or would this be waste of dosh really?

Evening OP,

How new are you to building PC's? I wouldn't suggest that you dive into full custom water cooled loops if this your first ever build (I will do a water cooled spec if you so choose to go down that road) otherwise I will do just an epic air cooled spec.

I agree, air cooled will be simpler, much cheaper and just as good gaming performance wise. Also if you are gonna have the PC hidden under the desk and want it to be simple to chop and change components then just stick.with air cooling.

Ether,

When you get a moment can you please come up with specs for me.

Other members have kindly helped out but I want to be 100% sure before I start ordering parts.

Thanks

Dude don't go ordering any bits yet as there is still much to discuss. I will spec up an air cooled build for you when I get to work in an hour. A few questions:

Will the computer be on show or stuck under a desk? ie do you want it looking bling or would rather save a bit of money and just buy the best parts and stick them in a case?

Do you want it to be absolutely silent as possible (read watercooled) or don't mind a little noise when gaming? (air cooled can still be very quiet and much cheaper & simpler to put together)

The guy putting this together for you have good experience building PC's?

Do you need operating system and a keyboard and mouse too? (sorry if you have answered this already, I'm on my phone atm)

What screen have you got at the moment? It will need a DVI, HDMI or DIsplayPort input (digital) to be able to connect to the newest graphics cards (290/290x) at least. A 24/27" 120hz screen would be nice with this build.

Can't think of anything else atm!

This is not for show, its going to be kept on top of my desk. I just want the best possible proformance i can get with the budget i had and i thought that will be with watercooling option.

The noise im not bothered about but would be nice if it was silent.

I havent purchased a monitor yet but it will be with hdmi.

Operating system i wasnt sure about. Which is currently the best for gaming? I need to add that to the bundle.

This budget £2500-3500 is for the machine and operating system only. All the other assessories i will purchase seperatly.

Sorry for grammer im also using my phone keys are small.

Many thanks

@OP Thanks for the responses, I think we have all the info we could need now.

Watercooling allows better performance through higher overclocks, if you run everything at stock settings then performance is the same as air cooling. It's just with air cooling everything will run 20 degrees hotter.

I would build on the Corsair Carbide 540 Air

I am putting a build together with this case as we speak!

EDIT: The guy said heis putting this on top of his desk so the carbide 540 might be too wide for that actually...

As water cooling costs more you have to compromise on parts normally, making an air-cooled option more powerful although it can't push each part as hard. That said, with a budget like yours that shouldn't really be a problem, can get both good parts and water cooling.

On a high-end machine you should probably be thinking Display Port not HDMI for your monitor, though a lot depends on the monitor resolution, refresh rate etc.

For gaming probably Windows 8.1 is best, has the latest DX etc. I still use Windows 7 on my gaming machine cause I hate my windows 8 machine so very, very much.

Oh, and on your opening post.... you can get a fast spec, strictly future proof is something we can only hope for not spec for as while speed can make up for things requiring more power it'll never be able to make up for something new coming out that isn't supported. The best way of insuring against that eventuality is keeping the build budget in check so it can be updated as necessary. e.g. if a new type of connector for playing games directly in your imagination then you'd probably need a new graphics card or whatever (silly example I know)

OK I have specced up an air build, closer to your initial budget but still with very beefy components.

Gone with very high-end 780Ti SLI. These cards are very expensive but offer excellent clock speeds, overclocking ability and the cooler is reported to be very quiet.

The usual i7 4770K paired with an Asus Z87 gaming motherboard & 240mm liquid cooler to allow overclocking potential.

16GB of very fast, blingy, lighty-up RAM :)

1000W PSU which is more than enough for the 2 cards in SLI.

Dual 250GB SSD's to give you 500GB total space and greater performance in RAID0

2TB HDD for all your data

The Carbide 540 case might be too wide for your desk so switch this out for the 750D or something if need be.

Windows 8.1 included and a DVD drive to install it with ;)

Cables and lights to match the theme

I will let Ethermaster do you a watercooling build if he shows his face!

AMD 290X version:

Same as above but swapped the cards out to save you a whopping £400 whilst retaining 95% of the performance.

I figured for future proofing with that budget you may as well go 2011... also gave you a nice big SSD, 16gb of flashy RAM and two epic GPU's with very good air coolers on :)
