New Build - HELP

Hey Guys,

Looking at a new build my current machines lasted me a fair while to say the least but with constant crashouts when trying to load chrome with GTA:fiveM open and the genuine need to just have something newer so this current build can go on my spare desk as a secondary for the misses to use when needed I want to know what I can do.

So I'll be keeping the NVME drive from my current pc which is a 1TB 970 Evo, which will leave the 1TB Samsung SSD in this one for her with all of the other parts.

I'll need a case I was debating the Lian LI Mesh case can't remember its name but watched a couple of videos from nexus seeing its a very good airflow wise case?

I was looking between the Ryzen 5800x and the 5900x both are in stock at the moment obviously the 5900 is probably overkill, but with me sometimes using the work to compile builds for deployments and things when I take work home I'd rather it be overkill as work are paying towards my replacement anyway... :)

Of course if I was just gaming id say the 5600x would be enough, but with consoles moving to 8 cores the 5600 obviously covers this need which game devs will probable lean towards more now, but im thinking the 5900x is like £100-£150 more than the 5800x I'll be getting 10% discount on it anyway, and as I say work are paying towards it so thinking get a 5900x right?

then motherboard not sure thinking an MSI 570 or something similar just prefer MSI in general had gigabyte on my last but honestly open to suggestions here?

Then maybe 16gb/32gb ram, again not sure what to go for her will probably go white RGB corsair (i mean rgb adds fps right? LOL)

I'll need a power supply, then thinking I could hook my current graphics card into my new pc while I debate between a 3080 or 3090? I want a 3080 and didn't really want to go any lower but stockwise their a pain in the arse at the moment anyway so maybe mine can battle through until there more commonly available?

Anyway can somebody give me some advice it would be greatly appreciated! My Monitors a 1440p 165hz acer pred xb271hu, thanks in advance for your help!

Perfect really just gonna see if can get the white models of any the above :) so cpu aio rad at the front thats same as my current one anyway! And would you recommend a 3080 seen ocuk have some in atm?

@mickyflinn Hey so I was looking at the list is there any white motherboards that you can find whether its on site or off site? I've found a white RAM set is that the same mhz wise as the one you mentioned baove but not sure if its Ryzen tuned? would this still be good to use? just wanted the white version, also changed the case over to the white version. :)
Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO SL 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 3600MHz C18, Illuminated Desktop Memory Kit (10 Individually Addressable RGB LEDs, Wide Compatibility, Optimised for Bandwidth & Response Times) White

For me keeping all the fans the same would be more important as it would look odd if they don't match. The corsair rgb memory should sink to the fans and would be less noticable if sligtly diffrent than 2 sets of fans But its your call.

The vision d board has more features like thunderbolt, Wi-Fi but you should check out the differences betwen the 2.

You definately want a motherboard with bios flashback feature as this can update the bios without the need for another cpu, this sometimes has to be done to get a 5000 cpu to work.

Both motherboards have this feature.

Cool last question although slighty more cost wise would one of the below and an additional 3 pack of matching corsair fans do the trick to replace case fans have them all matching and on the same software? :) call me a 'slight' corsair fan ok but the cash I save elsewhere on the RAM, and not needing a drive as I already have one covers this difference, I assume although a little extra cost would give me similar or better cooling results regardless? And you say front mounted AIO definitely over top mount right?
iCUE H150i ELITE CAPELLIX Liquid CPU Cooler — White

oh no I'll keep the lian li case as I like it! :) so ill stick with front AIO and potentially change the fans but if the AIO is fine thats perfect! :) I just didn't know if 360mm AIO had massive benefit over a 280mm for example :) as I could have went 280 and put it in the top if top was good, on my current build I have front AIO 280 and just a random fan at the bottom to add extra airflow I appreciate all of your time anyway I will get to ordering some parts!

@mickyflinn The differences between the two boards barring cost is mainly the thunderbolt/wifi which I require neither of I don't believe? If I'm just planning on running the 1 graphics card, my single M2 drive with the potential of a second for storage at a later date if I ever get close to filling the first up, would you think there's any point going for the vision at £40-£50 more than the Rog board you recommended in white? :) once I hear from you I think I'll begin placing my orders lol!

gigabyte is UK RMA , asus is EU. support from gigabyte rma is better .
The vision D- P version has internal USB C header , £209

VRM

https://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/gigabyte-b550-vision-d-review,4.html

Strix is 12+2 but triple output, Vision is Dual output

£213.48 if were both looking in the same place? :) but that's doable would you say its definitely the better option at £40 more than the ROG although the ROG is more aesthetically pleasing in terms of graphics and things on it

shame the corsair AIO CPU I found all the fan packs I see I can only find ones with a black outer trim for the ML120 fans, so I think I might just replace the ones on the AIO from the white to the ones with the black edging since they'll be hidden behind the front panel and use the white ones in the visible rear and top rear spots :)

Between myself and @orbitalwalsh you have enough info on the pros of Gigabyte motherboard so you have to decide if it's worth the extra £40.

Personally i probably would having features that can be useful in the future, but you can always use add on cards for Wi-Fi, etc if needed.

But i do like the look of the asus . :D

Sorry to throw you a curve ball but check out the NZXT AMD B550 N7 Matte White ATX Motherboard.
Im not a fan of the NZXT one so thats fine lol! :) bahhhh I think my brains telling me to pick the vision, but my aesthetic need is saying take the ROG you hardwire your PC everywhere you go so don't need wireless! from a comparison I just looked at the Vision Support crossfire (I don't need) Wireless Lan (again not needed but guess nice) supports 4866mhz 5000mhz ram (again wont be used as my rams lower than that) has an extra x16 PCI-E slot which I don't think I'll need as these are just for additional graphics right? and has 1 extra M2 Port but I can't see me ever using more than 2? :)

Judging by the above and my aesthetic need, and understanding the RMA issues I think I might just go with the ROG but I do appreciate the recommendation of the gigabyte board massively, obviously appreciating the VRM on the gigabyte board is probably better, I think most of the rest of it between them both balance out right? :)

Although im now looking at a review on the Gigabyte board and it looks very nice! GAHHH PAINFUL DECISIONS!

Presuming you mean wifi.

I would get the Asus.

What would you think about this one to go with instead of both ? I had a guy mentioning to me I should just get the x570 if im paying the 210 for a b550 anyway? would this be better than both the white ones suggested so far can pick it up for £230 with a discount code? what do you think lemme know asap ordered pretty much everything else :) @orbitalwalsh

Would have recommended that motherboard but it doesn't have bios flashback feature so your taking a risk if it doesnt have the correct bios . X570 motherboards have more pcie4 lanes so you can run 2 x m2 pcie4 drives.

So that one would be the best barring the flashback feature? My brothers got a ryzen 3600, so if I need a ryzen cpu to update it I could always use his I guess? I assume its basically if it doesnt have the latest bios that isnt beta to just update to the latest stable bios right?

As at this very moment in time im between this x570 and the asus rog 550 board, my only lean towards the b550 is the styling the flashback feature and the fact my current nvme is gen 3 anyway, so it only having 1 x gen4 slot is fine as id just use that for a new one if I ever got a new one :) where as for the mean time id just run my single gen 3 on it, knowing this fact and all the other parts ive already bought would you just stick with the 550 over the 570? Relieving the headache of flashback?

Again sorry for the million questions!

Its also in stock on ocuk at £239.99, so I guess I could have a word with support and ask if they could do the bios update before shipping!

@9dal39 I would stick with the b550 personally the extra £70 just doesnt seem worth it for your needs.
This whole cpu lanes thing being less on 550 than 570, is it just if you use 1 gfx card at pcie 4, and 2 m2's 1 gen 4 1 gen 3? That theyll be fine at those speeds or once you plug in the 2nd m2 are things limited? Ive seen a couple of reviews mentioning problems with the asus b550 strix saying the intel lan ports have problems you ever heard of that? Bahh honestly I hate choosing a motherboard should be the easiest piece of the puzzle! Then I wonder could and all black board work with all the other parts and case being white to offset them

Im now between the x570 just for this future expandability and not having to worry about pci lanes and things, and the cheaper asus b550 that will offer what I need for now but not sure about future wise.

so it can handle a graphics card at 16x pci 4 atm and a m2 drive at gen 4 x4, and I believe a m2 drive at gen 3 x4 is this correct for the b550 board? and nothing would be slowed down because of this? im just worried that if I do expand in future id have to then get another motherboard where maybe the x570 would cover me from the start? but if a b550 can do the 2 m2 drives and the graphics card without problem. then thats all I'll need and I can go ahead and order the asus b550?

I apologie massively for all the questions I know im a pain!

Your correct the b550 will give you pcie4 x16 for the gpu and pcie4 for the first m2 slot, the second m2 is pcie3 run from the chipset.

So the gpu will run at full speed.

If you want 2 x m2 pcie4 and gpu pcie4 x 16 then you want a x570.

And if your not happy you got £70 saved towards another board. ;)

So GPU will run full speed, id get 1 x m2 pcie4, and my current nvme is pcie3 anyway so if say for instance I get a new M2 for the pcie4 slot is that correct?

GPU full speed, m2 pcie4 full speed, and the other m2 pcie3 at its own full speed without affecting anything else? if thats the case then looks like the asus b550 it is!

Better warranty. Specially if you live close to Milton Keynes.

When people refer to full speed PCIe 4, no GPU maxes out PCIe 3.0 16x unless your running dual Volta GPUs :)

Recently got 4.0 m.2 myself , only due to trade prices and not even full speed. Which have only recently come out and PCIe 5.0 m.2 will be here at end of the year . Now tech is moving a little to fast haha

Will say, white Gigabyte x570 Aero S should launch soon, no chipset fan

I went with the white asus b550 for the time being! Meets my needs gets me by, maybe if theres a need for an upgrade hey I paid £160 for it thats a bargain in my eyes!
